Leftover birthday cake...

Anonymous
I have leftover Bday cake and it won't all fit in the fridge and freezer can I leave it out overnight until I take it somewhere tomorrow? It does have a butter cream frosting if that makes a difference? It is from Giant.

TIA!

I wouldn't, especially since it is so warm out. Can't you cut it into slices, wrap in foil and then find space in the freezer and/or fridge?

It will survive. You notice how they have all those iced cakes not in a refrigerator section in the store?

No eat it for breakfast lunch and dinner

It will be fine left out.

Slice it up, put it into containers, and put it in the fridge. Is it that difficult? Or do you have a midget fridge?

After my sons bar mitzvah we had so much leftover cake that we ran out of room. We gave two big pie es to the grandparents, and asked a couple of neighbors to store some for us. My husband brought some to work as well.

There is no such thing as leftover cake.

Dig in!

I have to ask - you asked neighbors to store leftover cake and didn't just offer it to them to eat?

I wondered the same thing. I'm hoping she bribed them with some of it until she could pawn the rest off at work.

I was just about to say -- invite some neighbors over. Late night cake party.

I'm sure it will also be fine for breakfast.

If you don't like cake for breakfast, chop and fry an onion and some potatoes, then add the cake, and serve with a fried egg on top and some hot sauce. Anything can be made into hash.

I don't believe we told them what it was, just do you have any extra room in your freezer for a week or two.

Cake is fine for 2-3 days as long as you minimize the exposure to air. We have air-tight cake carriers. We put leftover cake in the carrier, put plastic wrap over the exposed cake (where there isn't icing) and then close the carrier and leave it on the counter. It is fine for another 2-3 days. Really.

+1. Except I grew up just leaving the bday cake right in the bakery box it came in, with slices of white bread attached to the exposed cake ends with toothpicks to keep the cake from drying out. It was always fine for a few days like that.
