What Do Green Smoothies Taste Like?

Anonymous
A lot of people love green smoothies.

But I've never had one.

So, I was wondering what they taste like--especially if you put a lot of greens in it?

Depends what else you put in it. If you put strong tasting fruits, they might overpower the greens to hide the taste some.

leaves, moss and whatever flavors you put in it.

Grass. Freshly cut grass.

And dirt.

I just made some and it tastes like bubblegum with the leaves and moss undertones. I put in blueberries, grapes, OJ, banana, vanilla yogurt along with lots of spinach.

Could someone post a "beginner" recipe--something more immediately palatable you would recommend to someone putting a first hesitant toe on the green smoothie path?

1/2 to 1 cup almond milk (unsweetened vanilla, or chocolate)
1/2 frozen banana (break the banana into smallish chunks, then freeze)
1 Tbs peanut butter
1 Tbs oatmeal
1 Tbs flax meal, optional
1 scoop chocolate protein powder, optional
1/2 bag baby spinach, frozen (I buy on sale and freeze immediately)

Blend like crazy, enjoy over ice.

Why do you put the hemp seeds?

Tastes like whatever you put in it. I use flavors of fresh ginger, apple and lemon to mask the green.

However spinach is very mild and almost undetectable, but something like swiss chard and beet greens are very strong.

There is a huge variation depending on what goes into it as well as the amount of ice. DD makes variations I like while DH's are found to be universally disgusting-just like a crock pot slop. The tuna helper of savory should be baked casseroles.

Spinach, frozen pineapple, apple and banana with some almond milk (or regular). Can't taste the spinach...it's actually really sweet.

Don't use bananas - they are one of the highest sugar fruit.
Mine:
1-2 cups milk (sometimes I use soy, depends on what's in the fridge)
1/2 cup - 1 cup Frozen berries (I buy the store brand mix)
1/4 flax seeds
1/2 cup oatmeal
1 scoop unflavored protein powder (like Jarrow brand)
A dash of cinnamon
1 cup spinach
