I was leaving a fast casual type restaurant with my 2 and 4 year old DDs, and next to the sidewalk to the parking lot a pickup truck was backed in with two large dogs in the back. As soon as I got close to the truck they started barking aggressively, and the way the parking lot is set up there wasn't really another easy way to get to my vehicle (ended up having to cut through the landscaping and lifting my DDs over a small wall). These dogs were large--maybe some kind of great dane mix--and even when I was at my vehicle a few spaces away (there were no cars between this truck and me) they barked at me.
As I was pulling away I noticed there were a couple of police motorcycles parked in around the corner of the restaurant and I'm wondering if I should have gone in and said something to them but I since I had the girls with me and we were already headed out of the parking lot I didn't turn around. Ugh. Why do people do this? Those dogs could have easily jumped out of the truck and were way too aggressive to be out unsecured in public. |

Simply barking is not a sure sign that dogs were dangerous. However they were probably protecting the truck from would-be intruders, and since you were trying to get to your vehicle nearby, you were someone to keep at bay.
Not a comfortable moment, I agree, and these dogs are not properly trained. |
| If they were that big they could have jumped out if they wanted to. Maybe they were just barking. |
| I agree, OP. And dogs should not ride in the back of pick-ups in the first place. Dangerous. |
Totally agree and also sad to think about the consequences of a quick stop on a busy street or highway. I hate to see dogs (and children!) driven around without a thought as to their safety. |
