| I live in New England and just took the kids apple picking. We will give some away, eat plain apples ourselves, bake an apple pie (with a pre-made crust - any suggestion of brand?), make an apple / chic chip quick bread recipe. Any others ideas? My kids don't really like apple sauce... |

Kids who don't like apple sauce? I can't imagine! Mine are begging me to make a third batch after last weekend's apple picking adventure!!!
We make a lot of apple pancakes (chop them up small and add them to the batter) and apple oatmeal (same deal) around here - both are good with walnuts of pecans mixed in. Roast pork with apples is also good. If you're looking for something easier (and arguably more delicious) than apple pie, make an apple crisp. Sooo good with ice cream! Oh, and apples and peanut butter for lunch or snack! (This seems too obvious to mention to me, but I was recently told by a coworker than I was a weirdo for thinking that was normal). Enjoy your apple bounty! We're already planning our next picking trip. |
| Use the refrigerated crusts that you have to unroll. |
| I was going to suggest applesauce! Have your kids ever had warm homemade applesauce with cinnamon? It is just delicious and super easy... |

Make applesauce and can it. It is super easy!

| Overnight crockpot apple cinnamon oatmeal |

Using a tarter apple: hollow out the core. Put in some sugar, walnut, cranberries (whichever you like) and a tiny bit of butter. Bake for an hour or until its collapsed. Makes a great dessert (add ice cream when serving for an extra indulgence)
Bake alongside a turkey or chicken and they will absorb the juices and make a good side dish. Cut up pieces into salads: spinach, cucumbers, grated carrots and apple cubes Grate and add into oatmeal or pancake batter. Make jewish apple cake: smitten kitchen has a good recipe. Thinly slice and put on turkey sandwiches. Put a piece of cheese on top and toaster oven it. Apple slices wit Brie on top. Or almond butter. Gosh now I'm hungry! |

Your kids might like homemade apple sauce. I hate the stuff in a jar but will eat it when my grandma makes it.
Apple butter isn't too difficult to make. |
| Smitten Kitchen's Salted Caramel Apple Tart. Delicious, kids can help arrange apples on the puff pastry, and it looks amazing for very little effort. |
| Hard cider |
| Apple crisp with oat brown sugar topping. If not too sweet you can serve it for breakfast. |

You want quick and easy? Slice an apple into thin pieces in a little bowl, sprinkle on some sugar and some cinnamon and a tiny bit of salt, cover, and microwave for two or three minutes, or until the apples are as soft as you'd like.
My kids love when I make a traditional apple crisp. You can also make candied apples. Add apple slices to sangria. (maybe not for the kids. . . .) |
