Any predictions on whether Congress can pass a budget by September 30th? Just received a potential furlough notice from my department.
I think that a CR will be passed, but between a CR, debt ceiling negotiations and the ongoing sequester, FY 14 is looking bleak. |

Prediction:
Those old white men it f**k something up. |
|
shutdown looking more likely.

| WHY did I go into the federal government again? There is absolutely no benefit at this point. |
I'm with you!! I just started with the federal govt 3 years ago and its been one budget crisis after another! |
Yep! It's a hassle moving money around between CRs just to get anything done in my office... our main projects have been on hold for some time. And then Congress has the nerve to ask why we aren't doing X..... |
PP here...YES just ending my third year after coming from public and I came in right as the pay freeze hit. Its ridiculous! |
I would not bank on Congressional morons to be able to agree on how to turn on the lights let alone pass a budget. Be prepared for governmental shutdowns for at least a few days come the start of October. |
| I'm sure they will pass a CR. The same thing happens every year, except for that one year. |

I'm thinking shut down. Been in gov't for 8 years and really, really want to get out.
Expecting first baby in a month, so can't wait to lose more pay. The House Majority hasn't canxed recess next week, so they really have 2 days when they're physically here to get work done, and they won't. they're held hostage by the anti-obamacare folks, even after winning elections on obamacare and the SCOTUS ruling. Get over it. Meanwhile, there are two hearings tomorrow on benghazi. Lets not even think about how much it actually costs the gov't to shut down. |
| Yikes. Didn't realize they recess next week.... great. |
Yes, but the House Republicans are losing ground with the public. Their approval ratings are plummeting (worse than the President's) and they are desperate to take a stand with mid-term elections coming up in a year. The campaign is just starting and they have to make a point or they'll continue to slide through the election. So, they'll play hardball, which will mean a Mexican standoff which means that we're likely to see at least a few days of government shutdown. Compromise is no longer in the vocabulary of the US Congress. |
the thing is, this group doesn't care. They are in secure gerrymandered districts with no one to account to except the fear of a challenge from the right. And you have people jockying for national attention (cough cough Ted Cruz) it's a bad combination IMO after watching congress as a spectator for a while, and a participant for years. |

PP here again - my biggest problem is that there should be a complete shut down. Not "social security checks go out and medicare payments made".
Shut it all down or none of it. The more they exempt from a shut down the fewer people feel the burn. And in my opinion, the public could use a dose of "you know, not having civilians here kind of sucks". We got a taste of it during furlough but not enough. |
THANK YOU! I'm so sick of people saying that feds aren't needed. No one realizes how much of an impact the federal government has on their day to day life from food safety, dock workers, air traffic controllers, customs, etc. People whine that the sequester didn't matter, but that's because they don't see the GA checks not going out or the research that's been cut. |
