My 12 year old DD is self-conscious about the hair above her lip. I've used the Sally Hansen at-home wax strips but can't effectively remove it all. Can anyone recommend a place to bring her for threading? (I go to Threads Bethesda but I'm sure she'd prefer a place with a private room.) Willing to go anywhere in NW DC, Rockville, Bethesda or Arlington/McLean. Is Threading with Rani in Glover Park a good option?
Thank you. |
| Try Threads in Bethesda. They also have a 14th street location. |
| Waxing is better than threading but have you tried bleaching? Less maintenance and worry about regrowth. |
| Dupont threading. Can she handle pain though? I find upper lip threading to be very painful. |
| OMG, threading hurts like hell. At least with waxing, the pain is fast. that being said, I've been to threads on 14th and U and they were good. It was for eyebrows, it hurt like hell, but I'd go back. |
| What about a gentle bleaching kit? I don't know if there are any health risks, but its worth looking into. |
| Try the SH cream hair remover for now. Has anyone done laser on the lip area? |
| I have one of those little $10 lady Remington trimmers from Target. Works like a charm, pain free, has attachment for eyebrows too. Takes 1 AAA battery. |
I really like Rani in Glover Park. I found her when I first moved to DC and still go to her even though I hate driving on Wisconsin Ave.

| Get the microwave wax kit and do it yourself at home. |
| If you can afford it you should see a derm about laser or electrolysis. She is young and this is obviously going to be a problem for the rest of her life. If you add up the cost (and pain) of the next 50 years of waxing/bleaching.threading, it may be well worth it to engage a more permanent solution. |

Similar issue with my 11 DD - dermatologist says she is too young for laser/electrolysis, etc.
I was going to take her for threading, as that is what I do, but she can't tolerate the pain. We've opted for cream bleach - dermatologist said that as long as I follow the directions exactly for the amount, etc. there should be no issues. It's pain free and the hair is much less noticeable. When she gets older we can discuss other alternatives, but for now it seems to have gotten us over the hurdle. |
| Please don't just bleach it. She'll still have a mustache, but it will be blonde. Take her to a professional waxer or consider laser/electrolysis for a permanent solution. |
You have reading comprehension issues you should work on. |
| I would vote for the small electric razor noted by PP, I definitely use it sometimes when I don't have time to deal with threading/waxing. Also, if threading hurts too much, ask your dermatologist for an emla prescription, that is a numbing cream that you can use for laser hair removal. Or search amazon for emla, there are over the counter ones too that I don't hesitate to use myself but I would check with a doctor before using on a 12 year old. |
