DD hates breakfast- smoothies, cake, everything. She's 7 |
My kid are not morning eaters. Weekends they usually dont eat until lunch either. I let them skip and they take a snack for morning break/recess. |
OP, I'm not sure what you're asking here.. are you asking if this is OK? Are you asking if it's OK for your 7 year old to eat cake for breakfast?
Sounds like you have allowed some really bad habits to develop. No, it is not OK for her to miss breakfast. And cake is a horrible breakfast item, but even that is better than nothing. |
As soon as they were able to voice their preference. |
Breakfast isn't really all that important. If you're hungry, eat. If not, don't. Why is this so hard?
Usually if they are under like 6, maybe they can't decide, but once they say "Im not hungry", just keep it moving. Bring along some snacks in case their hunger sneaks up on em. |
It is never fine for a child to miss a meal, particularly on a school day!
The kids are allowed to choose from a small variety of breakfasts, but once they choose, they have to eat it, or else. The hot breakfast DH makes is the French soft-boiled egg in an egg-cup with buttered toast "fingers". Otherwise they can have yogurt with granola, or toast with cheese. Cold milk. Lunch (if eaten at home) and dinner are not even a choice. They eat what's on their plate, period. |
Or else... what? Sometimes my kid is simply not hungry in the morning. If she doesn't eat, then she needs to wait until morning snack. I encourage her to eat breakfast, but if she doesn't want to eat, I can't make her eat. How do you make eating "not a choice"? I really don't get it. |
Since birth. I'm not a morning eater so why would I force feed them? |
+1 I have one that eats a huge breakfast and one that picks at her food. I don't sweat it at all and refuse to focus on how much they eat. Instead I focus on what they eat. |
Do they get a snack at school? If so, those tend to be pretty early so I wouldn't worry about it. |
Same as 21:35. I have memories of my mother trying to get me to eat something, anything, in the morning before school (elementary school). She gave up by junior high. To this day I just can't eat when I first get up in the morning - I have to be up for more than an hour before I feel hungry. I bring my breakfast with me to work and usually eat it about 10am. DS is just like me - just not hungry until later. I try to get him to at least eat something small, and the before-care program at school has been good about allowing him (and others) to bring breakfast food in and finish it there. But there are days where he downs a couple bites of something and just isn't hungry until mid-morning snack time.
And to 21:26, what do you mean by "or else"? Or else what? If someone's not hungry, they're not hungry. |
My 7 yo son has never eaten breakfast. Drives me nuts. I offer a healthy breakfast every morning. He rarely even touches it. I never force him to eat though.
He does drink a glass of milk, so that's something. |
I haven't never wanted to eat until I have been awake 3-4 hours. DD is exactly the same. DS eats everything in sight. Different needs for different bodies. Unfortunately, we have stopped listening to our bodies and go by some prescribed "rules" about eating. Look at the obesity crisis in America. The "rules" aren't working. |
I agree with this. Eat when hungry. Don't force it otherwise. |
I fall into the exact same category, not very hungry until 10/11 am, since I can remember and I never liked "breakfast food"-eggs, cereal, waffles etc...just not for me. I remember my mom giving me pizza, and Swanson turkey tv dinners (remember those?) for breakfast in elementary school. She wisely said "food is food". I would eat that because I really liked it.
I don't force my 3 kids to eat breakfast (some days all they manage to have is chocolate milk!) because they generally have a 10 am snack at school, so I pack something substantial for then. I always felt like I had a secret about allowing my kids to go to school without a real breakfast. Happy to know, we are not alone. btw, my kids are great eaters (after 10 am), healthy and doing very well in school. |
