| I know they are totally different regions but we can live in either place because of commutes(each is closer to one of our commutes) and we are slowly realizing that we are priced out of Bethesda but can afford something in the region zoned for Wakefield forest elementary. is that a good school? Any redistributing issues that may affect home values? |
Yes and maybe though the latter won't affect Wakefield Forest directly. |
| I would look at either Chevy chase or 20910 if you're priced out of Bethesda. Still better schools than Annandale. |
This is Woodson HS territory, at least as good as B-CC and better than anything in Silver Spring. |
|
Woodson. You still get a W school.
I moved from Annandale to Bethesda because DH and myself both work in Gaithersburg. The kids were going to private in Bethesda. It made no sense for the whole family to commute each day. I miss Annandale. Less traffic, lower taxes, house in cul de sac, nice people. I can't explain it. People just seem more down to earth. |
A W school? |
In Mont Cty, a W school is considered a better school. It just happens that the Bethesda schools all start with a W. Whitman, Wootten, and Walter Johnson. |
And Winston Churchill. In Potomac, but attended by some Bethesda kids. |
|
We moved from Annandale to Bethesda and really miss Annandale. There's a real sense of community there and people aren't really pretentious the way they are in Bethesda. Plus there's great ethnic food in Annandale. In Bethesda it's mostly all generic (but still pricey). We go out a lot so we've probably tried every restaurant in downtown Bethesda and aren't thrilled.
Downsides of Annandale: The commute! If you're going to NW DC that is. Our kids went to Wakefield Forest and loved it but we decided to switch them to private school in Bethesda and NW DC for junior high which is why we moved. |
Wait, when did Wootten become a w school? I think there's been some w creep there. Whitman, Walter Johnson, and Churchill are the w schools. Bethesda and Potomac. Wootten is in Rockville, a fine school but not quite in the top tier. |
But is Woodson a 'Whitman' or a 'Wooten' or not even that good? |
Long time ago. Wootten is more desirable now than Walter Johnson. |
IMO, yes. Woodson is a very strong academic school. And it comes without all the pretense of the Bethesda schools. |
What does that mean? How many times have Woodson posters told people looking at Annandale to make sure they look outside the Beltway in the Woodson district? |
| This thread has made me interested in Annandale. How would you get to work in DC from there (Farragut, if that helps)? Drive to a metro station? Bus? We are looking to improve our commute and our space, but can't afford the obvious areas. |
