Charles’s second wife is not an insecure harridan.

Nope, just a trashy homewrecker.

I don’t condone what they did, but Charles and Camilla were operating on a different set of rules from what Diana thought they were operating on. Upper class Brits have cheated for centuries - they have the kids with their wife for the heir and the spare and then many of the marriages functionally end in that respect and they both kind of move on to other partners.

But Diana thought it was a love match. If someone should really come in for name calling, it should be Charles, not Camilla.

Let’s not act like Charles didn’t play up the idea that it was a love match. You can see why a 19-year-old would be confused. Charles lied about the affair, including the fact that he even had a mistress - saying that Camilla was nothing more than distant friend, for every moment until he couldn’t.

The Crown is fiction. Charles and Diana had a real connection. Diana ran in the same circles and knew him well since she was a child. He was notorious for dating around. He was interested in her and intrigued by her personality. She was naive, inexperienced and fell for the prince not the man. Her nickname in childhood was Duch (duchess) because she believed she was destined to be a duchess. He was pompous, eccentric and emotionally closed. They realized they had very little in common early on, they fought a lot. Charles had options, he jumped to Camilla. Diana quickly found married partners, and she frequently harassed their wives, but she never got over being rejected by Charles.

Do any of you know the difference? Or do you believe what you watch in daytime soaps is also totally real???

I think that part of the issue is that these are real people and some variation of this did happen. No, it’s not a documentary and while we can speculate based on various peoples’ accounts (I highly recommend The Diana Chronicles by Tina Brown; she was very even-handed in her treatment of them both), we’ll never know.

It will have to be because they'll be all caught up to present day.

NP. I thought I heard that there will be a season 6, covering the early years of the 21st century, but nothing beyond that.

I mean if you don’t want an inexperienced, naive wife don’t marry a teenager? He wanted to dip it low and spread it wide for his whole twenties and then marry some virginal teen.

If only Diana had not married him!
Better yet, she should have insisted on being married a few years before having a baby

I don't know if I'm the first or last person to see the new casting choices, but I am really and truly scratching my head at Dominic West as Charles.

Imelda Staunton is a good choice for the Queen, but the appearance is a little too close to Dolores Umbridge.

I agree Dominic West doesn't look at all like Charles. But what famous actor does? Charles looks normal. Not so much for professional actors. But at least the same hair color would have helped.

The last guy - Josh O'Connor - at least bore a passable resemblance:
