And so does unemployment...as every time you see a self checkout r other self... This is where family had been fed. Amazon should be force to create one low level low skill job per each self machine to get permit to operate in a given area. |
Honey, people won’t be delivering food/groceries to your house if there’s a quarantine. Hence, the reason for stockpiling some essentials. |
They sell shelf stable pasteurized milk all over the place here... |
Shocking. |
| None of us (in the DC area) have experienced a big snow event in this non-winter, so we've been itching to stockpile for a while! |
While I get it this is an issue. Groceries stores and self checkouts are the same idea. Giant, Safeway and HT have no cashiers where I live before 10am. Also, Giant and Safeway try really hard to keep staff at part time so they do not have to pay benefits. Target corp is horrible in this area. Not only do they not treat employees well they try really hard to get rid of employees as they move up the payscale so Target does not have to pay. One thing Amazon does well, is for their warehouse workers they have excellent benefits, excellent track record for employee development and giving enough hours to workers who want them. The complaints we hear from their workers are mostly from people who are lazy. I'm not saying the warehouse jobs are great at all, but if someone is a hard worker they can get an education paid for and get a better life. |

Lol. Dude, this is not “the one.” They are not going to lock down cities. You are being ridiculous. The reason for stockpiling is so you have groceries in case you’re sick. Not in case there’s a quarantine. |
Same where I live in Southern California. |
This makes a lot of sense to me. We have kids in 3 different schools so I'm sensitive to that, but as I understand coronavirus, the kids aren't especially vulnerable to serious illness. I could probably stand to add some more dried beans, cereal, and canned fruit, but I'm not really worried. we are otherwise pretty flexibly prepared for various needs. I'm pretty grateful that our parents are all in fairly rural areas with small farm resources. |
| Does canned fruit have any actual nutrition? |
Has anyone shared this article about why it's prudent and neighborly to stockpile: https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/preparing-for-coronavirus-to-strike-the-u-s/ |
It has some vitamins and a little fiber. Frozen is better nutritionally, but canned is more stable. |
Haha. The weirdest thing to stock is water - if there is no running water, the house is unlivable. Think toilet. |
There is plenty of preppers and sites out there. This thread is for entertainment. |
