Are you kidding? I'm more interested in the flashbacks than anything else. |
From the flashback I'm guessing her father was abusive. Maybe she felt her mom stayed in the abusive relationship because of them or that they, the kids, made it worse somehow. |
I usually avoid flash back shows because I've felt manipulated in other shows. You have all sorts of information coming at you. The people in the story know most of it. And it feels like the only person getting left out is the viewer. And the viewer is just being emotionally manipulated for the highest effect. I GET flashbacks if it's revealing something the characters are just learning, too.
I think so far most of the reveals have included other characters. Not just the viewer. I hope it stays that way! (Examples of shows where they manipulate the viewer: scandal, lost, can't think of more right now). |
Has anyone been thinking about the actress playing the younger Kate? I feel sad for her. Her main storyline is that she is an overweight child. The actress playing her certainly knows she was cast because she is chubby. I hope they are not setting her up to have issues as a result. The actress playing the adult Kate also knows that her weight was crucial to being cast but she's an adult, not a child whose self-identity is still being formed. |
I think that's a danger for any child actor. Being chubby is the least of her issues if she doesn't have responsible, caring adults in her life. So many child actors lives have gone the tubes--money issues, drugs, sexual abuse. I just hope she has protective parents. |
You watched it while you were "working" from home?? |
Seriously, don't say that shit. Gives those of us who actually work from home a bad name. |
Please relax. I did plenty of actual work including while I was watching. Mostly I watched when I was between tasks, eating lunch, and making dinner. |
Oh please, there is so much BS that happens throughout the day in offices too. Lots of WFH positions are results based and it doesn't really matter what the hours look like any given day. |
She is very good in the show. She will know that casting directors look for types - I am sure when she turned up for her audition all the other girls were chubby too. I think its more damaging to have your child involved in the entertainment industry where their sense of self value is skewed by being "chosen" or not, than being chosen for being chubby. |
She has a recurring role in a series on a prime time major network series. Very happy for her! It's a role that requires acting chops, as opposed to slapstick comic relief. That's not a dig at successful comediennes who are overweight, but it's a break from the typecasting that overweight actors face. Moreover, the role takes a serious look at the long term impact that bullying has on kids. I think it was brilliant to show her as an exuberant, confident kid and then the adult she turned out be. Did anyone catch the irony that her twin was a scaredy cat about taking risks and then turned into a guy who dives headfirst into them? He leads with self-deprecation to break the ice in every situation, while Kate can't break the ice anywhere because her feelings about herself rule her life. |
+1. Yeah, like the smoke breaks and workout sessions that happen in every office. |
This is a S/O topic for Jobs and Careers. Can we keep this thread for the show? |
I LOVE William. Every scene with him is so well done. I have been kind of unsure of Kevin, but once they let William dissect him a bit, I have a lot more interest in the Kevin character. I adore Randall and his wife. I think the hotel scenes were so well done. I do want to know why we don't see anything between Kate & Rebecca in the present day. |
I hadn't thought about the Kate/Rebecca disconnect until this thread but now I'm curious, too. I'll bet that Kate blames and/or resents her mother for having some role in her father's death and that it's somehow related to the current relationship with Miguel. |
