Can you read?!?! 1. Not all families have school aged kids. Many will just have one baby, or one baby plus a toddler/preschooler. 2. Not all families will opt to yank their kids out of their current school and enroll them in your precious school. 3. You won't have to deal with tons of new kids at your school...unless I opt to buy or rent in your neighborhood and send my brood to your precious school...and you'd have no day in that decision either. 4. You are worrying about nothing, so why are you getting so worked up? You might want to check yourself...you sound like an anti-poor racist...and I'm sure you don't want to be that person, right? Tip: the best way to educate yourself and develop some empathy is to volunteer at a family shelter. Now, it isn't a zoo, so they won't let you waltz in and observe the native species. But there are ways to get involved to support their efforts. |

Damn iphone! |
A lot of very legitimate questions have been raised in this thread with few answers in response other than the standard "you're a NIMBY and you don't care about the poors." Maybe some don't, maybe some do but that still doesn't specifically address the concerns being raised. Some have pointed out that this could be as bad or worse of a debacle than DC General already is, some have pointed out that Bowser's concern may be faux and in fact more about developer cronies... Don't be too sure about what is or isn't faux. |
Can you read?!?! Most of the faux concern/non-issues have been addressed. |
No, I am not blind. The shelter will not be based in Glover Park. It will be adjacent to Glover Park with the Russian Embassy compound as a buffer between the shelter and Glover Park. The shelter is proposed for the east side of Wisconsin Avenue. Everything I wrote above is correct. Again, I am not blind - I am just not purporting to speak about something of which I am not informed. |
I would certainly hope they would enroll their kids at the neighborhood school and go and get a decent paying at the chipotle, whole foods, Safeway etc next door. Is the point to move to independence or no??????? |
No, I read, they were dismissed, but they weren't actually answered. Thanks for proving the point tho. |
You shouldn't be so rude. There at several players relying to you and not just one person as you may think. If someone feels their security is at rush, that their property value will decrease, and that their school performance will diminish, that is their opinion and are valid concerns. Stop being so judgmental!! |
Typos. "Several posters" and "security is at risk" |
But your home values will be fine, schools will be fine, security will be fine. You are panicking for no good reason other than fear of the unknown. We have homeless shelters and housing programs throughout MoCo...including (gasp) Bethesda! Do you think home values and test scores have gone down? No. Quick question for the critics: who are you supporting in the election? Must be a republican, otherwise you are a hypocrite. |
Yikes. She's back. The angry poster who does not live in DC but for some reason is telling everyone in DC how to feel and act. People have a right to their opinions regardless of whether you agree with them or not. This does not affect you so why are you on this thread attacking people who it will affect? |
Because I work in the homeless advocacy arena in DC and I actually know what's what. And I live less than a half mile from a housing program in MoCo and my kids ride the bus to school with "those kids." So I can assure you that you are freaking out about nothing. It will be fine...I promise. You should be proud of your mayor...she totally rocks. PS - this does affect me...because homelessness affects all of us...at least those of us who care and have dedicated our careers to finding solutions instead of bitching about our home values. |
| Its true a lot of people make a living addressing these kinds of issues (you are not a volunteer correct?) |
Another YIYBY. Yes, in your back yard! |
Correct...because I already have one in my backyard so I realize it's not an issue at all. |
