Why? The assessed value of your home decreased?

lol no it increased, and these people are mad because then they have to pay taxes on the actual value of their house.

If their houses don’t increase in value, they’re mad and if it does increase in value, they’re mad.

I do think that once you turn 70 there should be no more tax assessment so that you don’t get taxed out of your house.

I don't even think you live here or very low-income resident.

Racists like YOU hate it? Yes please! Yes you’re racist. Your mother lied to you, you’re a bad person.

A lot of cope and deflection but no answers. Why did it slip from the richest county in the country to poorer than Calvert County and Stafford County?

Current Rankings:

I’ve noticed a trend on this board from people that are in north Virginia. They seem to have an inferiority complex about MoCo. People in MoCo rarely think about NoVa or post about it but people from there seem to be obsessed with Montgomery county. It’s truly a mental illness.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

This is funny and delulu. No, we don’t care. Just stay off our roads. The number of numb n*ts with MD plates is staggering.

It’s cute that you keep on cherry picking stories and not posting related stories that address the growing unemployment in Montgomery County, but those of us who have lived in the area for 30-40 years have noticed a precipice decline in Montgomery County, while places like Arlington, Alexandria, Tysons, Falls Church, and the entirety of Loudoun County have grown so much economically that they have 4 of the top 10 richest counties per median household income in the country.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-income_counties_in_the_United_States

Montgomery County, which used to be #1 in the nation, is trailing Stafford County and Calvert County now, both places that used to literally be known to have a fair share of rednecks in trailers flying Confederate flags in the 80s and 90s.

We've been in MoCo 30+ years, and I do remember those days, and I agree with your views. However, most of the DCUM posters will not understand what it was like those days. You are wasting your time.

We feel the same way about VA drivers here in MD. Whenever someone doesn't use turn signals, uses brights at night on major roads with lots of traffic, brakes and stops randomly in the middle of the road, etc., 90% of the time they have VA plates.

Tax assessment should happen, but an accrued/interest-bearing deferral should be an option, called on the transfer of the property, whether a market sale or estate.

Taxing unrealized capital gains on non-revenue generating, owner-occupied land is regressive. Taxing the value of improvements to land is stupid because it punishes development.

The least bad way to tax real property is to tax the value of the land (ignoring what’s on it), especially when undeveloped or underdeveloped land is sold. The state won’t allow this because land speculators donate a lot of money to campaigns.

People like you who post these stupid statistics I don’t even believe that you lived here in the 80s.

decline?

In the 80s, high school students were allowed to smoke in schools. My brother took a glass blowing glass where he made bongs in high school . Kids were not getting into Ivy League schools. Gaithersburg was Calvert county.

In the 80s Montgomery County was the richest county in the country. Your personal anecdotes don’t change the data.

In the 1980s people were flying large Confederate flags on 395 south of Springfield and literally living in trailer parks in counties that have no passed Montgomery County in median household income.

If America went from #1 to #20 in median household income over a 30-40 year period voters would be livid and there would possibly be political unrest in the streets. For some reason most Montgomery County voters don’t care or worse yet welcome this depressing decline. It makes no sense, but here we are.

LOL

Virginia is Turing blue that’s why it’s successful and MD is heading red

History is glorious

Turning blue? When is the last time VA supported a GOP president or senator?

At the lower levels in southern VA, or ROVA (rest of VA), it is pretty darn republican.

Not sure either side can claim victory.

These snow plow truck drivers need to take a class on plowing snow. You drive down a three lane highway that suddenly turns into a one lane highway then a two lane highway, then a three lane back to a one lane. What a joke. Ramps not plowed and intersections messed up. I have yet seen a plow pushing snow to the right instead they are pushing straight a head which doesn't make any sense. I really think they never done this before and are new at this. They can't be from this area. I notice the trucks are old like left overs from the war.
Yeah, Montgomery County is changing for the worst. The county council doesn't care either especially since they jacked up our property tax.

Montgomery County services have always been going down hill. As long as they can increase property tax they could care less about their services.

Land value taxes would be unconstitutional the way you want to do it. A tax that zeros out the market value of land would be considered and uncompensated takings of private property.

Nothing in the previous post suggests zeroing out the market value of land. Just base the tax on the value of the land. The state already splits the assessment by land value and improvements value. Just tax the land and raise the rate so it’s revenue neutral. Re-assess the land periodically and whenever the owner gets the permissible use increased. Owners who maximize the value of their land through improvements win. Renters win. Markets win. Speculators lose.

They want you to clean the sidewalk when it snows but they cover the sidewalks when they plow the snow. How backwards is that.

That one council member said he'll give us until Monday to clear the walks and here it is Thursday and they don't have the walks cleared for school to open. Yeah, they are messed up.

Same is happening in Arlington and Fairfax. Still a mess over here.

Of course Montgomery County's highest government expense is MCPS. It is smaller percentage of the county budget now compared to 20 or 30 years ago.
