Nonsense. He came up with a whole plan to create a separate organization to keep travel profits separate from the original rec leagues they were associated with, designated himself in charge, and pays himself a large salary. (They don't even get their own permits, they use CYA fields which means fewer fields for the CYA rec teams.) He cares about cash money ducats and nothing else. If he truly cared about the game and the player, he would let exceptional poor kids play for free (Valor has very stingy financial aid). They would send weak players back to the rec leagues instead of taking their money and be honest with parents.

THIS. U9 boys team has a gold, white, black, silver and blue. We have watched some of these games in passing and they are painful. And it isnt the kids fault. these are rec league players paying travel dues just because. If he was in it for the players these teams wouldnt exist.

I believe the U10 girls have 5 or 6 teams as well.

The U11 girls only have 2 teams and the second team is very weak.

That's putting it nicely. They were in 6th division last season. Though, to their credit, they did bump up to 5th division for the spring after beating 4th/5th teams from other clubs.

In their defense a very close friend of mine has a kid on the u11 gold and these girls have not had proper training since entering the travel soccer program. Honestly I would consider these girls self taught. If you knew half of the shenanigans these players and parents are dealing with you would be shocked. We are on our third travel team with my daughter and while some of it is regular club growing pains they really did a disservice to these girls.

Any intel on 2011 boys? Coaches, chance to make a good team etc? Or is that an age to avoid also.

This season they have three teams.
The top "gold' team is not very strong relative to the top teams of other clubs.
I have heard the 2nd team has a very large roster already (assuming because the club won't move players down to team 3 and risk losing paying customers) so my guess is it would be hard to make that team.
The third team is very weak/rec level so it will have lots of openings but who wants to pay for that?

It is true across the board in Valor that there is a huge dropoff between the second and 3rd/4th/5th teams on the boys side. Girls side the divide is between the 1st and 2nd teams. Very easy to make a 3rd team, often they are desperately trying to find enough players to fill the roster for the lowest team.

I was surprised that my neighbor, who has played on Valor since he was little, didn't even make the JV team of our HS. I know its hard to make varsity, but what did his parents pay for all those years if he doesn't have enough skill for JV?

Not really. It was SYA/CYA travel before, so the kid probably did that and then it magically transformed into Valor.

It all depends on the school they are attending and the skills of the athletes trying out. Some are more competitive than others and some take whoever they can get to round out the team and have enough players.

That 3rd team player is probably one stuck in the system and won't be moved up due to the reasons stated earlier in this thread.

Numbers for high school tryouts are huge on the boys side. Looks like most of the ones that make the rosters are ECNL or MLS Next Players with some regional league players sprinkled in.

We played a u-littles Valor team recently and they had 5 kids sitting on the sideline. Seems ridiculous at that age. No other teams we played carried that many subs. All about $$$$.
