| Holy Cross is a great school that plays in the very good Patriot league. Many good lacrosse teams in that league with very good academics. Goalies are different. But there is barely a difference in recruiting outcomes for the top players on Orange versus some of the girls on Blue that commit later. Recruiting success happens for both teams. It is not exclusive to Blue. |
Wrong big time. Just noticed how few Nova public school girls have committed to UVA over the years, and have discussed with other parents who have daughters who have been recruited by top D1 programs (including JMU). It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with grades. My suspicion is that the previous UVA coach had either a bias (perhaps subconscious) or relationships that steered her toward private school players. But it’s just a theory based on multiple parents saying UVA was the only top school to not even look at a player’s online profile. That seems odd. |
Sure is. Heaven forbid the kid liked Holy Cross. |
Are we this delusional to think VA public schools is in someway the code to contend in the ACC? Of course she’s going to go after IAAM players, kids from Long Island and upstate. She had to go against UNC BC MD on the regular |
Interesting that every other announcement was met with celebration. Troll much? |
| This is such a ridiculous conversation. People are complaining about things with a coach who has now retired. Get a clue. |
Did you choose not to read the post that showed two thirds of the prior coach’s players on the current roster came from public high schools? What bias (subconscious or not) are you talking about? You have no leg to stand on. Give it up. |
| I think the point was since UVA is such a good school, and fairly inexpensive if you live in VA, why is it that so few players from VA go there? |
UVA competes in maybe the top conference in women’s lacrosse. You can’t win with a bunch of VA kids on your roster. The top girls in MD, LI and upstate will go to UVA. You get kids from that area, you can win, see BC, UNC, UMD as examples. |
| In the end the recruiting really goes one way - if a coach isn’t interested in you then it’s never going to happen. Sounds like UVA prefers kids from out of state - for whatever reason. Could be a financial thing for the university or regional diversity or any number of reasons. Still isn’t great for players who would like to stay in state. |
Curious how this compares to Univ of MD? Do they keep instate or do they get from NY CT etc? If it’s similar than the answer is that they just weren’t that into you. |

Because UVA is a top 20 program and (sit down for this) wouldn’t be if they only favored NoVa public school players. JMU has one NoVa public school player on its current roster - the reason it’s a top 10 team is not because of NoVa public school talent. Not hating on NoVa public schools but folks please open your eyes to the fact there just might possibly be better talent beyond this very small pool. |
Look at the roster, it’s available online. UMD gets players from all sorts of different regions. Very few from in-state public schools. |
I was talking both VA private and public school kids. Neither dominate the UVA roster. I wouldn’t expect a ton of public school kids to go there, but thought the private school kids would be targeting to play there. |
