Exactly. They are setting these poor kids up for failure and increasing risk of behavioral problems. I don't think this should even be allowed. Half the instructional time is in a language these kids don't speak or understand.

The point was the arrogance and insistence that of course MV was better than a lowly DCPS and DCPS parents are at best short sighted. There are charters we would choose over our current school, MV was not and certainly still is not one of them.

That is your opinion, not a fact. There is a lot of data ( re-enrollment, where kids go to school, PARCC scores, etc) that don’t support your statement.

That’s overly simplistic. Many people choose schools based on feeder patterns or special programs, not because they “don’t like” their IB. If their IB suddenly became a Deal feeder, I bet you’d see those numbers reverse ASAP.

But having your kids have not learn in elementary just to have a chance (or even a guarantee) of DCI is just not worth it. If you value your kids education, you need to find a better option. It may mean going in bounds for elementary and then moving if you don't get into a good middle school off the lottery. Most people on DCUM could afford to move (maybe not to as big a place and maybe not as fun a neighborhood) if needed for a better school.

But that still supports the point overall. We chose a charter (not Mundo) because while we have an excellent inbound elementary our middle and high school are nonstarters for us. So in effect, we don’t like our inbound options.

It depends on your DCI feeder and how well that school works with your kids.

And frankly I would choose Mundo Verde with a dci feed over Eliot Hine/Stuart Hobson and Eastern.

Also it’s good to learn Spanish.

How good can DCI be if it's receiving lots of elementary kids that haven't learned much in elementary school? Does DCI have some sort of remediation/catch up plan in place at 6th grade the way BASIS does in 5th grade?

learning was important to our family. so we left MV. figured i could get a Spanish tutor or some type of supplemental...

There are bilingual schools in the suburbs if Spanish is important to you. There are options. No one is trapped at MV and parents should not be deluded into thinking they can change the school.
