Mundo's quality has always fallen off after first grade. We saw the writing on the wall and left. The school is not going to improve for the upper grades with Kristen in charge. If you care enough about your kid's education to protest and find tutors, you need to take that energy and find another school. Most people have a better option - either their in bound school (most DCPS schools are better than Mundo) or most DCUM parents could afford to leave DC.
Their IB is not a better option. People that leave a charter school go to another charter or private, no one goes back to their IB.
No, they are going to others charters bc their IB isn't better. they are going bc they *convinced themselves* that their IB is not better, but often they are totally wrong.
+100. I got in a DCUM argument with someone a year or two ago about our DCPS bilingual vs. MV. I sometimes wonder how that poster is doing and whether they’re still at MV…
Eh, it's not one or the other. Some people have convinced themselves their IB is no good and will got to a charter or private no matter what. Other people know for a fact that their IB doesn't meet their needs, whether because they've already sent a child there or because they have more intimate familiarity with it. It can go both ways. - a parent with kids at their IB who is looking for a charter because the IB is not good (but has eyes wide open to the ways in which charters also fail kids).
+1 exactly. No school is perfect for everyone.
That wasn’t my point and of course no school is perfect for everyone. The point was the arrogance and insistence that of course MV was better than a lowly DCPS and DCPS parents are at best short sighted. There are charters we would choose over our current school, MV was not and certainly still is not one of them.
You can look the participation rate here so you can get an idea of how many parents don’t like their IB: https://dme.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/dme/page_content/attachments/SY2122_Public%20School%20Enrollments%20per%20DCPS%20Boundary_0.xlsx
