Why don’t advocates for the homeless build spacious housing for them 1-2 hours away from DC?

In the 1880s, the Los Angeles Poor Farm was created to house the areas burgeoning indigent, mentally ill, sick, and addicted. Even back then, California had a homeless problem as the warm temperate weather attracted those from around the country.

It still stands today in Downey, CA. I grew up 8 miles away and never knew about this place!
