We're looking to take our kids to Europe for the first time over spring break in April 2014. They'll be 7.5, 7.5 and 4.
Do you have any thoughts on a good country/city to visit? I'm sure some are more kid friendly than others. Thanks! |

How are your foreign language skills? If they're not so great, I'd stick with the two big ones - London and Paris. Easy to get around, things will seem fairly familiar, etc.
But I'm always looking for reasons to go to those two cities, so maybe I'm biased. |
| Amsterdam. Hopefully the tulips will be out at the time of your trip. |
Dutchman here. April, early May are excellent times to visit the Netherland and the tulips will very likely be blooming. |

The Germans detest children. The French tolerate them if they are well-behaved. The Italians adore them.
If you don't speak foreign, I would go to London, which is the greatest city in the world. Lots of things to do with kids. |
| with kids that young, i agree london is a good choice. plus the flight is tolerable from DC. |
| Go to Italy - Rome, Florence, Cinque Terra |

Just came from copenheigan . Wonderful!! However, London is probably best/easiest for first overseas trip. So much for children to do !!

London is great, but I went this year for spring break (last week of March) and it was sooooo cold. I had never felt so cold in my whole life! I had my 3 y old with me and although we loved it, we would have loved more if we had felt more comfortable while walking around.
Paris is also great and there are tons of things to do with kids as well. Rome was nice, but I didn't think there were as many options of things to do with kids as the Paris or London. Maybe because We only stayed for 4 days.... I have never been to Amsterdan but it sounds lovely. What about Barcelona? |

London has plenty of museums and child friendly places to visit compared to other European cities. They also have better hotel accommodations for families as well. http://www.visitlondon.com

| I think London, Paris and Rome are all good options. Haven't been to Amsterdam. |

My top 5 for families would be:
1. London 2. Paris 3. Madrid / Barcelona 4. Rome 5. Amsterdam |
| London definitely. My kids were bored in Paris and Lisbon but had a great time in London. |
|
My top choices would be:
1. Barcelona 2. Amsterdam 3. Rome 4. Paris 5. London (Unlike the others, I am not a big fan of London...perhaps because I lived there for a number of years and hated the weather.) |
| PP again. I forgot to mention that I took my 4yo DD to Amsterdam last spring and she loved it (including the trip outside the city to see the tulips). |
