social smoking

is this as "gross" "horrifying" and other exaggerated words that "chain" smokers are called?

I have been smoking for about 2 years about 3 cigs a night while out with friends. I don't reek of smoke and my teeth aren't yellow. I know it is still a risk and also second and third hand smoke but is "social smoking" as stigmatized as being just a smoker plain and simple?

Yes. Because those who see you classify you as a smoker.

You're a smoker. Own it. Over time, your teeth will be yellow, and chances are, you already do reek, you just can't smell it yourself. Because you're a smoker.

Yellow teeth are easy to fix.
Enjoy your nights out with your friends and don't worry about what others say. I can't believe that many people actually care if others smoke.

Nope, wrong again. I don't smell like smoke. If I did my husband (who hates smokers!) would say something. He would ask if I have been smoking. Why do you all assume that after 2 cigarettes you must smell like an ashtray? In total, I have less than a pack of cigarettes a month.

If you don't feel like you need the cigarettes then now is the ideal time to quit. You are really pushing the envelope towards addiction. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks about you as a social smoker. Everyone starts as a social smoker, not because they want to become an addict. Do yourself a HUGE favor and quit now.

You have kids and go out with friends 6-7 times a month?! (1 pack holds 20 cigarettes, so at 3 per night out, thats 6-7 nights). I don't think I have been out with the girls that many times in the past 3 years.

Omg, I have maybe 4-5 cigs a year when out with friends who do while drinking. I was once a pack a day smoker- trust me.. it is so not the same thing!!

Some of you people are so freaking up tight!!

I go out with different friend groups about once a week and some times we will go out nights in a row. So yes, I suppose you are right.

17:20, if I have maintained under a pack a month for 2 years, I really don't think im barreling toward addiction.

Addiction is when you crave more and therefore use more. I have not felt the need to smoke more.

PS. Do those of you who feel so strongly about cigarettes feel the same about smoking marijuana?

Per your definition I could smoke 3 packs a day and not be an addict as long as I don't crave more. How, in this day and age of plentiful information about not only what cigarette smoke does to your lungs, but also what it does to your insurability, could any intelligent adult choose to smoke? I suppose "intelligent" is the operative word. Be a repellent idiot. If your husband doesn't care, why should anyone else?

You get desensitized to the smell.

Smoking cigarettes is horrible. Smoking marajuana is horrible. I have seen horrible consequences from smoking marajuana. It is not innocuous. It is evil.

OP, you shouldn't bother arguing with these people. Social smoking is fine. If people want to smoke, fine.
You do what makes you happy and what you're comfortable with
