| Single parent. Got mortgage, car payment, credit card debt. Used to have an 800 credit score but due to some recent circumstances I'm now facing financial difficulty. Have basic cable, eat mostly at home, drive old car. What are your best tips for me? Thx. |
| Why do you have basic cable? Get rid of it |
| Cause I can't get out much and I have a child. |
|
No cable. No eating out. Call cc companies to get lower interest rate. Or transfer balances to lower interest card. Clip coupons if you can. Buy only essentials
|
| What is your job now? Maybe pick up a side gig? |
Yes do Internet only and buy an HD antenna box and HD Roku box at best buy. |
|
Use mint.com. It links to your accounts and lists and categorizes all your spending so u can see where your money is going. Of course some transactions you might recategorize but it showed us we spent $800/mo at work on lunch etc, $200/mo on dr bills, etc.
What are you spending on groceries? Try making cheaper meals like homemade pasta sauce, beans (dry) and rice, chicken thighs (boil and grill, or boil till done and pull), pesto (traders has frozen basil cubes just add garlic oil cheese), grilled cheese sandwiches and soup, etc. |
| Shop h&m and old navy for yourself. No more Macy's etc |
Um, your kid will be better off without cable. Kids do not need cable tv. |
Thrift store is better, Americans buy way too many clothes anyway. |
| And you can buy good frozen pizzas, frozen Thai food, and frozen Indian at trader joes (so no need to eat out) |
You can get an antenna, get PBS kids. No, TV is fine for kids but if you are broke get a Digital antenna. The quality is great. |
Which one? (Not OP) |
Where are you? |
I'm not OP but I'm in Tyson's so I can go md/dc/va |
