Options for opposing Connecticut Avenue changes?

But go ahead and do it. Finish as you started by flipping off the residents. We’ll kick you out at the next election and reverse the changes to something like the above which is what every decent country capital would have done.

At the next election, everyone we know, hitherto a Dem it Dem-voting issues voters, will be voting against the incumbent across the board. With the only possible exception of Bowser (she’s not great but there is worse).

yes, traffic calming is pure hubris! lol. those pedestrians, always wanting not to get killed.

There are tons of traffic lights. I wouldn’t cross Connecticut outside of a designated side walk. How many pedestrians have been killed by law abiding residents of DMV? From what I could tell it was freak accidents like someone having a stroke and carjackers. What are your stats?

It would be great if the Connecticut Avenue bike lanes went all the way to the Purple Line station in Maryland.

But really, you're going to have to decide whether car priority on Connecticut Avenue is for people to drive in and out of the city without stopping at the stores along the way, or whether car priority on Connecticut Avenue is for stores (job creators!) on Connecticut Avenue to stay in business. One or the other. Not both. People driving past a store without stopping doesn't help the store stay in business.

No I’m not is the point. Grow up (watched the vote yesterday, see what happens when you set ultimatums).

People will bike and drive past these stores the same. If you put a bike lane on the sidewalk and retain the lanes and the parking you will get more patronage of the stores.

This is a rare case where no zero sum is involved. But everyone knows Frumin can’t do the basic math.

If you put a "bike lane" on the sidewalk, the biking will be just as bad as now, the driving will be just as bad as now, and the walking will be worse than now.

The recent accident was tragic but could have happened anywhere and no pedestrians have been killed.

I disagree. How are people getting on in Geneva, Amsterdam and Berlin? Those poor cities have no pedestrians or walkers left alive.

Your problem is that you can’t accept simple solutions; you need to grandstand and measure up your willie against Nadeaus etc.

How indeed? Hint: not in cars on six-lane roads through dense commercial/residential areas.

Here’s a novel idea. Enforce the traffic laws for a month, see what happens. Issue tickets to speeding cars, use of mobile, riding a bike opposite the traffic or through the red light, jaywalking. Arrest joyriders, fine and impound ATVs and sentence the carjackers and keep them in jail. Fix the metro. Make sure metrobuses are not a favored location for knifings and sprayed by bullets. Have some rules for delivery vehicles. See what happens. It’s not the people who are the problem, it’s the poor government. And so your solution is to further punish the people.

Oh dear word yes, have you seen the wide boulevards and the speed and the bike lanes drawn on the pavements with careful transitions over the roads and back onto the pavements and with traffic lights for bikes and not Idaho stops. Not only seen, I biked and drove in every one of these cities.

It happened because someone thought they could make a u-turn. Take away that ability with a 6 lane road, and you get a road where cars cannot make U turns.

If people keep driving badly and the roads have to be adjusted to make them safer, then get mad at the other drivers who are ruining it for you. Stop getting made at people who are trying to bike and walk.

You don’t need to take stuff away; you need to enforce the laws! People will still make u-turns but they will be 16 point u-turns. You have to enforce the laws.

You are so stubborn that we are a national laughing stock today. You’re making an enemy out of well inclined people.

Tell Frumin, an electric bike makes him a SLUG not even a MAMIL.

Yes bike lanes on the pavements, preserving the 6 lanes. Just like in every beautiful European city.

Option 1: dump a lot of police officers on Connecticut Avenue, at great expense (while taking them away from the rest of the city), for a one-month blitz of citing and arresting people
Option 2: permanently re-design the road for safety
