Best grocery store cake

Anonymous
For the first time, I have to buy a birthday cake instead of make it (venue rules say no homemade food). It doesnt have to be fancy -- the kids arent exactly gourmands -- but I want it to be as good as possible for a reasonable price. What grocery store or similar type place has the best cakes?

Wegmans- chocolate on chocolate cake. It is great and just as good as homemade. Avoid Costco cakes, they are the worst.

Wegmans. I like chocolate cake with the white icing. Even my DH who doesn't love cake really likes Wegmans cakes.

Publix in Florida. A long drive but worth it.

Safeway and Harris Teeter are also good. Whole Foods is awful.

OP, it sounds like you're having a party at a gymboree-type place. Let the activity be the focus of the party.Don't over-think this one. Find the grocery store that is most convenient to you and pick up a cake. Be done.
