hair loss - need advice on best type of doctor to run right test - NVA area best

Anonymous
I have experienced noticeable hair loss since my early teens and now that I am in my 40s I feel I need to find the root of the problem. I have seen the same family doctor since my 20s. Every so often I would ask for extra tests to be run for my hair loss issue, and they always came back and told me my blood work was normal. I finally asked to see the results, and saw my TSH was 3.5 and my ferritin level (iron store) was 19. In research, I believe my TSH is too high (e.g. borderline hypothyroid) and my ferritin level is too low. My calcium level was normal, 9.8. My family doctor referred me to a dermatologist, who said the calcium test was not for vitaman D deficiency, and said they will test for vitD and other stuff. However, when I saw the test the dermatologists requested, I noticed several other related hair loss tests missing that should be checked, that neither doctor checked. Now I am feeling that I am not going to the right doctor to get all the tests I need done at one time! I am spending too much time researching on my own - and I want to ensure I get ALL the right tests run before I accept it is a hereditary condition with no cure. I feel it might be hormonal related. I also still break out and have several blackheads that have never gone away. My menstrual cycle lasts 8-9 days.

I need advice on the best type of doctor to see (endocrinologist?), or even better ... a doctor recommendation in the NVA area. BTW - I haven't received the results back yet from the dermatologist.
