We've started grinding our own beef because I've heard too many stories about what the store bought ground beef contains in terms of the least desirable parts of beef.

If you are into it, check out the article. Also, if you already do it and have any suggestions as to grinding one's own beef, please share.

Oh for God's sake.

My parents used to grind their own beef with an old metal hand food mill. They purchased the best cuts they could afford and we each took a turn at grinding. Can't remember how good it was and do remember they did this for years. Its a ton of work.

Better yet, have a herd a cattle and cook the meat right after slaughtering the animal.

The meat sold in the grocery is still a cow corpse that could have been dead for weeks. There are fly larvae, microbes, feces particles, nose hairs, mold spores, worm eggs, dead skin particles, and even saliva from a butcher cursing at the meat after nicking his finger with a blade.

Cook the meat well and you will be just fine. If meat is too icky then maybe consider a vegetarian diet.

Not sure why some are reacting the way they are.

OP has made a personal choice to grind the beef they eat. Others can do what they want. We all make personal choices when it comes to dietary issues. I rarely drink soda and prefer to drink water. I also drink organic milk based on medical advice and avoid just about all processed foods as far as possible.
