Message to elementary school teachers

As the school year approaches I'd like to express my thanks and to ask a favor. First, ley me say how much we parents appreciate how much you do for our children. Truly, we are in awe of how much you accomplish with a room full of children every single day.

I think I may be able to speak for several of us also when I say how much we love the art work our kids come home with; that being said, can I ask a question/ favor? Is there any particular reason why special art work NEVER sems to be the same size as a traditional frame? Must it always be odd sized or oversized? I would love for my child to have the proud moments of seeing art go on the wall nicely framed, but I can't afford to pay for custom size framing all the time. It would be so nice to be able to buy frames at Target to hang this art. My only choices are to cut it down, which Dear Snowflake strongly objects to, or to just clip it on the wall. Is there no way to give them 8x10 or 11x14 paper on occasion?

Am I alone in this complaint?

Thank you!

Developmentally, kids, especially in younger grades need bigger space and bigger tools.

Yes, you are alone in this complaint. How about scanning the work and then sizing it to your Target frames?

Of all the things to complain about, this is not on my list if top 10,000

I'm a teacher in FCPS and on behalf of my colleagues, please don't ever make this request, especially with the patronizing lead-in. We are more concerned about what is appropriate instruction for our students than whether or not you can fit something in a frame.

Ugh.

Really? You would rather have parents complaining about the quality of instruction or your classroom management instead of appreciating the substance of what you do and making an admittedly superficial request? Incredible.

How did you interpret "that" with what the teacher said???

You seem to be coming from a place where you assume that parents need to complain at all. If your biggest problem is the size of the paper the art work comes on, then perhaps that's a sign that you should limit your comments to things like "thank you" or "do you need chaperones for the upcoming field trip"?

Why not buy the see through frames that basically hold any size paper?

Go and have it framed if it's that important. There are places for that.

I'm not the PP but this is not a superficial request, actually just a request. And if it can't be done, it can't be done.

Tired of the "I am a teacher, I am God attitude". Get over yourselves. We, as parents, have the right to be disappointed sometimes in your teaching and the curriculum, especially when, in FFX Cty, my kid comes home with run-off worksheets that often make no sense and instructions on some projects from the teachers with spelling and other errors. Do I point it out? No. Because I know you are human. But you are NOT God.

I am not a teacher and my children do not attend Ffx schools, but wtf are you talking about God? OP made a really dumb request. One that has nothing to do with the quality of education. The teacher pp in no way implied that she, or any other teachers, were God. Just that it was a dumb request and that they are actually more concerned with the actual education instead of ridiculous parent requests. Artwork that is easier to frame? Come on.
