| Both of these seem to come in bags at both giant and whole foods, but are often in volumes more than I want - I've never seen anyone re-bag these, and at whole foods, bags are hard to find - so what gives? Do I just have to find the smallest bag I can? Or is it acceptable to take some out (and put into another cherry bag) until the bag is the size I want? |
| Yes. |
| You can re-bag them until you have the amount you want, just like breaking off bananas until you have what you want. |
| I re-bag all the time. You're charged by weight. |

Ha, there was a woman the other day at the Bethesda Giant "re-bagging" the cherries and grapes by eating a few out of each bag!
I felt like saying, "Hey, lady, do what the rest of us do and buy some." |
| I feel so dumb that I never thought to do this. Don't worry, op, I usually like a little more than the bags provide but not enough to get 2 bags. So it's not like you're throwing off the balance of the universe by decreasing your size. There are plenty of yins to your yang. |
Me too!! It has never occurred to me, until just now, that I could take out one big bunch from a bag, put it in one of the produce bags, and come home with 1 lb of grapes instead of 2.5. |
I always try one grape and one cherry before deciding to purchase. Too many sour grapes and watery cherries these days. Fruit now costs about the same price as meat but the produce seems to be far less consistent in quality, taste and texture than protein products. I figure if the store doesn't want me to sample they can tell me and I'll take my business elsewhere. |

That sounds like stealing to me pp.
Re: the re--bagging issue -- I always ask a store clerk to do it for me. Do you really want all of those people touching the fruit? Of course, I wash it but it shouldn't be handled by so many people. |
| Yes |
| Rebag all the time. Pre bagging is the grocery store's way of trying to sell you more than you need. I'm pretty sure that when I was a kid, the grapes and cherries were displayed loose and you just scooped them up yourself into the bag. |
They definitely were loose. Especially the cherries. I remember my mother painstakingly looking at each and every cherry before putting it into the bag. |
And you think that by doing this you are limiting how many peoople have touched your fruit? Seems like a waste of time and where are employees actually re-bagging this for you? |
|
Lol. My first reaction was that of course you cannot rebar. Oh the anarchy. But once I thought about it, why not.
My guess is they tend to be bagged for easy turnover. If you had a bin of loose cherries, it would be harder to fill the new ones at the bottom. |
Rebagging fine. You are still paying for what you take. Tasting=stealing. They shouldn't have to tell you not to steal from them. Fortunately they aren't going to tell you take a flying leap, but you should know better. If you want to check, take it, buy it and taste after you paid. If it is sour/watery, then walk over the customer service and return them. But until you buy them, you cannot consume them. What are you 3 years old? |
