Ha, there was a woman the other day at the Bethesda Giant "re-bagging" the cherries and grapes by eating a few out of each bag! I felt like saying, "Hey, lady, do what the rest of us do and buy some."
I always try one grape and one cherry before deciding to purchase. Too many sour grapes and watery cherries these days. Fruit now costs about the same price as meat but the produce seems to be far less consistent in quality, taste and texture than protein products. I figure if the store doesn't want me to sample they can tell me and I'll take my business elsewhere.
Rebagging fine. You are still paying for what you take. Tasting=stealing. They shouldn't have to tell you not to steal from them. Fortunately they aren't going to tell you take a flying leap, but you should know better. If you want to check, take it, buy it and taste after you paid. If it is sour/watery, then walk over the customer service and return them. But until you buy them, you cannot consume them. What are you 3 years old?
