Did you drink during the 2WW?

Anonymous
I generally do not, but have had a rough day today and would love a glass of wine at the end of the day... I've heard that before implantation there's really no risk at all, but I'm generally on the conservative side of things. I feel silly needing others' opinions on this, but it's been a long TTC ride and I find myself less and less able to not overthink things!

Yes. My OB said she did too.

You should be FINE to have one glass of wine (with food) I didn't know I was pregnant until three weeks later (just tried for so long that I didn't believe it could be true) During that time I went to a wedding and had 2 drinks--I wished I had not had two but one would have not made me feel badly. Baby came out perfect- Most people will tell you they drank before finding out.

You will be just fine! I drank up until the day I found out I was pregnant, including a wild wedding weekend / bachelorette party and a Nats game binge. Of course, had I known I would have behaved differently, but the doc said it was fine because I was under 4 weeks along and that the placenta hadn't formed yet, etc. One glass of wine won't cause harm....

Hell, I drank a little during the pregnancy - once in 1st trimester (although I puked it up). Again in 3rd trimester at a wedding - but that was a wee bit. I wouldn't even consider not drinking during the 2WW if the urge struck me.

What the heck is a 2WW?

Yes -- this pregnancy was a complete surprise and I was having a terrible couple of weeks just before I found out! Of course in an earlier "planned" pregnancy I didn't (and even obsessed about what I ate...).

I drank a lot at a wedding two days before I found out I was pregnant. I had gone to the fertility specialist for a blood test the week before, and he said I was definitely not pregnant, so I let loose at this wedding. The nurse told me not to worry about it - I was still only 5 weeks pregnant at tat time - and my dd is totally fine.

My current pregnancy was a bit of a surprise, so I also drank until I found out. Don't worry about it. I have one friend who didn't know she was pregnant until 10 weeks, and she drank too. The Mayo Clinic Guide to Pregnancy has a chart that says when the most crucial time for development is, which is when you have the greatest risk of birth defects. I found this comforting.

One glass of wine isn't going to hurt anything. At any stage. In my humble opinion. Don't stress out about it.

2WW = 2 week wait from sex to pregnancy test

2ww= 2 week wait between ovulation and when your period is due (i.e. when you can take a pregnancy test). Those 2 weeks are also called the luteal phase (the second phase of a cycle after ovulation).

i actually spent the entire day before my BFP drinking in NYC with my best friend who had me convinced that there was no possible way i could be pregnant. all my tests were negative, but i just KNEW. however i went with the program and we spent an awesome day together drinking wine and shopping and talking. woke up the next morning nauseated and took a test ... blazing BFP. the doctor's office said it was fine though. and i'm 30 weeks and the baby seems to be doing just fine!

Yes. I never restricted my alcohol intake during 2WW, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Though I will say that I normally do not drink much -- maybe 1 or 2 drinks a month. I think this amount of alcohol intake is perfectly safe for all phases of life.

I believe the only risk from drinking prior to implantation (the first 6-10 days of the 2WW, on average) is that alcohol consumed during that period can potentially increase your odds for chemical miscarriage / failure of implantation. Until the embryonic blood supply is connected to your blood supply (between 10-14 days, on average) the embryo has no exposure to the things you ingest. Of course, once the embryonic blood supply is connected to yours, any alcohol or drugs you ingest can effect the developing embryo/fetus.

Yes! Our DC was a surprise and we were on vacation in the wine country of France at the time. Not only were we drinking every day we ate lots of raw, runny cheeses too. It all turned out fine.
