I received an estimate of around $3,400 to powerwash my 2300 sq. ft house (I live near the Beltway and it's dirty!) and large back patio, and use Sherwin-Williams to paint all the trim (including columns, porch railings, porch ceiling, 2 bay windows, 1 multiple window basement casement window, 14 6 over 1 windows (2 or which are floor to ceiling), 3 foundation windows, a french door with two floor to ceiling paned side windows that are as wide as the french doors), 10 shutters, front door with paned floor to ceiling sidelights, rear door with 6 panes and four large triangular architectural elements. The large bay window is south-facing and requires scraping and priming. It will also include scraping peeling paint and repainting our brick chimney and three two-step sets of stairs. The south facing large bay window and trim will also require scaping and priming in addition to painting. The garage door and trim has already been scraped, repaired and painted so he won't be doing that. The estimate does not include painting the brick walls/Hardiplank siding because all of that is still in good shape.
My question is, does this bid sound reasonable? This guy works carefully, is very neat and does quality work. I'm not looking for the cheapest price which usually means messiness and a lack of attention to detail, but I don't want to be paying too much either. I know I should get another bid, but this guy is a known quantity to me. He did some top-notch interior woodworking and other repairs for me and is the go-to guy of my architect friend so I'm not willing to get a bid from just anybody. WWYD? Thanks. (And sorry this was so long-winded). |

Jeez that is a deal IMHO. we just got two quotes to paint our house, all wood clapboard farmhouse, both for over $11,000!! We were bummed.
|
This is for all the trim only. Not the whole house. It's a lot of trim though. |
|
I paid $4,000 for painting the trim on a very large brick house. The trim was in good shape, so did not need scraping, but we do have lots of windows.
If you'll get a high quality job, its a very reasonable quote. |
| If you paid or willing pay over $3000, it's either you are dumb or rich. |
And you are rude and ignorant. |
I am just saying the facts, rich and "educated" people. You guys are the one that are spoiled those people there, oh get 3 qoutes, but you guys as consumers are willing to pay those prices, doesn't matter how many qoutes u guys getting, it's going to be over priced. So go ahead and wast your money. We are in love making the money |

So 00:15, what, you're a proud rif off artist?
OP, price sounds in the ballpark. Despite 00:15's asshole attitude and poor communication skills, I agree prices are high around here. But my painter is far more pleasant than 00:15 ... |
should say "...rip off artist..." |
So maybe another way of looking at your comment is that I'm paying, perhaps, $500 over what you might charge? If so, I can live with that especially since I know that this guy is pleasant and a good communicator, professional (no overly loud talking or music playing or coffee cups/trash strewn about), very careful (he won't trample my foundation plantings, drip paint on my stone porch or attempt to dispose of items in the bushes). I also don't believe in squeezing every last cent out of someone who is making far less money than I do. Maybe you should consider some of these qualities as you go about your work. It could pay off! |

I would get two more quotes. You will feel like you've done your research then and the other painters might offer you more insights about the work.
Tell them you are getting other bids, they might give you a discount. |
Thanks this is good advice. |
