summer drinks (alcoholic)

Anonymous
Any ideas for a summery drink (besides sangria) that I can make using a bottle of wine? Or just a few ingredients? Another going-to-the-beach post and I don't want to lug a bar along with me, but would love to enjoy something a little different than gin & tonics (as good as they are). Thanks.

Vodka grapefruit is my fun in the sun drink! With lots of ice. Some like to drink with salt also.

Snakebite: 1/2 beer, half hard cider

Shandy: 1/2 beer, half lemonade

Mint Julep: Use a muddle to crush 1 tsp of sugar and several mint sprigs into 1 tsp of water in a pewter julep cup (or muddle mint into 1.5 tsp simple syrup). Fill the cup with crushed ice. Add 2.5 oz Kentucky Bourbon and stir once. Pack crushed ice to the very top of the cup. Add soda water to the top. Garnish with mint sprig.

The last one's a bit complicated but so worth it.

My summer favorites are:

Sweet Tea Vodka & lemonade

Orange Juice, Pineapple Juice & Coconut Rum

(Ps thanks for reminding me I'm super pregnant and can't enjoy any tasty beach drinks this summer, will you have an extra for me?)

Vodka, lemonade, and a splash of grenadine. I use crystal light pink lemonade to cut out the calories.

plus a splash of lime.

grapefruit soda and tequila is a paloma (which is often preferred in Mexico to a margarita)

Trader Joe's sells Pomegranate Limeade ($2.50 for a 64oz bottle). I am in heaven when I mix it with either vodka or tequila (and triple sec if I want), served over ice. Paper umbrella optional.
Have fun!!

Nothing beats a mojito on a hot summer day.

I love a spritzer. White or red wine with club soda over ice. If I want to put a little work into it, I add a squeeze of lime and/or a little splash of juice.
