| Lord help me!!! Its getting more difficult to want to stay. I just hate being a social worker. |
Why do you hate it? |
| Sorry O.P its never too late to change careers. How old are you? |
| Same here. I'm a registered nurse. |
dealing with very difficult people on a daily basis! |
| This is O.P I am 39. |

My daughter starts college this fall and wants to go into social work. This worries me a bit because I've always heard that social workers generally end up poorly-paid, overworked, and burned out unless they go on for a masters or doctorate and get out of the lower ranks.
What do you hate about your job? |
Are your clients difficult, or is it the help providers? |
|

Have you thought of becoming a school nurse with DCPS? The ones I've dealt with for my kids have seemed happy. |
Not OP but hospitals use nurses for discharge planning. The money's pretty decent. |

Are your clients difficult, or is it the help providers? [/quote] What's your specialty? Could a change of specialties (like from gerontology to adolescents) help? Or is it administration/coworkers getting you down? |
|
OP, my best friend was a social worker and she changed careers. The stress of the job and the things she saw and heard just got to her. You are not too old to do find something else that you enjoy!!
|
Sorry, meant social workers for discharge planning. |
|
OP- SW has to be one of the most high stress, thankless and underpaid careers. I use to be a school counselor and left that career completely. I'm going back to school this fall for a degree in engineering. I'm 40.
It's not to late. Good luck to you. |
O.P here I have a masters degree....there is a lot to deal with . The clients are just difficult and nobody says thank you here even after you " bend over backwards".Generally over worked and underpaid...I just realized that you can't change a world that doesn't want change. |
