Hi,
Just moved into our house. My daughters room is in a renovated attic. We didnt realize till we moved in that the windows in her room are "crank-out" windows (they crank open to the side like a door, just one pane of glass and a screen that cannot be removed). We went to home depot, guy told us to buy a portable AC, but that the way the vent tube thing has to be put out the window, the kit that comes with the portable AC's wont work for casement windows. So he told us we have to "rig" the vent pipe thingy out the window, he suggested plexiglass and cutting a hole to hold the pipe, (but we cant figure out what holds the plexiglass to the window??) Does anyone have a portable AC installed into a similar casement window, and if so, how did you install?? It is 128 degrees in her room lol. Thanks! |

What about a wall mounted AC?
http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/308287.page Does the room have a ceiling fan? I'd look to install one of those first. Also, I think there are fans that work in casement windows, e.g. "exhaust" fan: http://www.amazon.com/Bionaire-BW2300-Window-Remote-Control/dp/B000065DKJ I would definitely re-check the wiring/electrical b/f putting in an AC b/c you don't want to overload your electrical box. |

Here's an idea. Get a piece of plexiglass cut to the same size as the window screen. Then cut out the 4" or 5" hole required for the portable AC tube and outlet and then remove the screen and insert the plexiglass in its place using the same brackets and filler pieces so it lays flat. You'll only need to crank the window about 4" or so to get the required venting.
If you are looking for a permanent solution and have wood siding, you can have your handyman install an opening for the hose directly in the wall the same way you would for a dryer vent. You can cap it off in the winter when not using the AC unit. |
| I think there are adapter kits you can buy. |
| You could also get a floor air conditioning unit (Looks like a tall cylinder) that is very effective. |
| Meanwhile, DD sleeps downstairs. |
| I would buy a permanent split system |
