We're moving next month and we're having a few rooms painted, and I'm having trouble deciding what type of paint to buy. In the past, we've usually gone with whatever was available at HD (usually Behr). But now I'm wondering if it's worth getting "nicer" paint like Sherman Williams or BM, etc. Pros/cons? Is it worth the extra price? I think we're willing to spend a little bit more if the quality is exceptionally better... |
behr ultra premium is rated the best paint on consumerreports better than BM |
I bought sw paint and didnt see a big difference from the paint at lowes or hd. I like te zero fumes paint from lowes. |
Sherwin Williams is awful.
I like Glidden Premium from Home Depot. |
If you like a BM color (or any other) Home Depot will mix it in Behr. We recently did that and it looked great. |
Behr and Glidden both did well with consumer reports (although they said not to cheap out within those lines) |
BM paint is generally more durable and covers better than the cheap HD/Lowes brands. |
the martha stewart line of behr at home depot is awesome and only like $25 a gallon. Beautiful colors. The BM Aura is $60+ a gallon and I didn't htink it was worth that much more, even if it is only "one coat". |
Bull shit, maybe the entry level version. The people here must be old as shit and didn't get the update about how Behr Ultra Premium Low VOC paint 5 years changed their formula and is the best rated paint. Or everyone here works for BM. Get the fuck over BM. |
I like BM paint and the store is closest to my house so that's what I use. I like it better than SW or Valspar (Lowes) but haven't used the Behr to compare. |
No, it isn't. BM is best. Consumer Reports just acknowledges that Behr is cheap: http://articles.courant.com/2012-02-25/business/hc-ls-consumer-reports-paint-20120225_1_low-voc-inexpensive-paints-consumer-reports And Ace Hardware's paint outdid the Behr crap. Here's a professional painter who thinks Consumer Reports can suck chunks of dead chicken through a straw: http://fabulousfinishes.wordpress.com/2010/05/13/behr-premium-plus-ultra-paint-ultra-sucks/ JD Power also overwhelmingly prefers BM: http://blog.colormarie.com/2012/02/latest-rankings-on-paint-brands.html |
Using Behr is like furnishing your house with Ikea. It appeals to some people, certainly. |
Behr Ultra Premium Low VOC smelled for about 3 months after I painted. The smell of the BM Aura dissapated completely after about a week, but "one coat" is serious BS--it took two coats. |
We just did a massive repaint over some intense dark colors. BM [regular-not aura] covered in 1 or 2 coats over primer. I should have negotiated the paint contract better since the painters are of course labor intensive. Next time I'm buying the paint.
As per painters the duron, sherwin williams would have required more coats. |
Most of our house is painted with BM Paint, but most recently we've used Behr Premium Plus Ultra. You'd never know the difference by looking at the rooms. However, the BM paint is a bit thicker and goes on a little better than the Behr. We started using Behr because the BM store isn't convenient to our home, and have been pleased with the paint; the price is great, as well.
