Bingo! The squatter bike kid's GoFundMe is slandering the PA and it's gathering money. Now the PA has reason to sue "whoever" put up the GoFundMe. The teens were foolish and should have just stayed out of the limelight.

+2. His GoFundMe says Comrie "assaulted" him over the bike. Is that actionable? Could she prove he's asking for money under false pretenses? https://www.gofundme.com/f/the-family-of-the-young-man-in-citi-bike-incident?member=27119691&sharetype=teams&utm_campaign=p_na+share-sheet&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=customer

If he had just stayed quiet, nobody, including us, would still be discussing this.

That lawsuit isn't going anywhere, come on!
You losers have been arguing non stop about this video since this spat happened. Like we are supposed to believe that you would have just magicly found a hobby.

It’s interesting they will not state his identity for safety reasons but it is ok to give hers.

It’s also interesting only one journalist interviewed them and they never posted the interview so who knows if the journalist is truthful given who the interviewer was.

Monique is probably the journalist in question and she posted on NewsOne.

Again, if he had just stayed quiet, and if Monique had just stopped stirring the pot, nobody would still be talking about this. But the steady drip of "here are his receipts, here's Monique's interview, here's his GoFundMe" provide new fodder every day. Except today, but here you are begging for a response, so....

If by “that lawsuit” you mean the defamation suits, you’re sorely mistaken.

Well, we have new developments in "Karen bike incident". We all missed friend of youngster in purple hood. Initially he seated on another e-bike, but than things got heated, he said: "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. Just give her the bike.". It can be seen on video.

Well on the end Sarah took "his bike" and rode home according to latest develpoment. Of course bike wasn't his, he just squatted it, but he had decency to not bully other customers and let her take his e-bike. Six month pregnant nurse after 12 hour shift who wanted to rent docked e-bike.

The real hero is youngster in purple hood, meanwhile Michaels is just ignorant adolescent, who was also bullying pregnant nurse for his unlawfull and selfish interest. And he and his family are spewing racist remarks and doing mental gymnastics with "invading personal space and docked bike was in his possesion" and in the end even try to milk money.

Just give money from Michaels gofoundme to youngster in purple hood. He is the real hero of this drama.

Good for this kid, he’s a true hero. Is there a new source?

This video is great, everyone should watch it. I thought I understood the situation but he actually breaks down several things I didn't get (like that the bike is redocked during the video, and that the kid in the purple sweatshirt gives up his e-bike so the woman can take an e-bike home).

I totally agree with "Nate the Lawyer" -- the kid was wrong to try and camp on the bike and prevent the woman from renting it, and he's being kind of shady in the video because when they tell the hospital worker who walks up "oh it's on his account" this is only because the kid literally JUST put it on his account while the woman was on it (after forcibly redocking it).

But yeah, the woman shouldn't have grabbed his phone, you get why she was mad because the kids were harassing her (and I don't think she's wrong to call for help, personally, I think that's a good call in that situation and she wasn't being over dramatic IMO) but she shouldn't have grabbed the phone.

And yeah, the purple sweatshirt guy is the best one because he actually stays calm the whole time and is telling his friends to let the woman have the bike (which she was 100% entitled to because it had been docked for 6 minutes and was available to rent) and then he gives up his own bike so she can get home. That kid has his head on straight and is friends should pay attention and learn something.

Definitely don't think the PA is a white supremacist or that she was trying to get the kids harmed, and she shouldn't be fired from her job! I don't think the kids should be prosecuted or sued either, they were dumb but as we can see from this video, they are learning and some of them did know what the right thing to do was.

The people who posted the video and claimed she was "weaponizing white tears" and who are demanding her apologies and demonizing her and calling her racist are terrible. So are the people using this video to call the boys "thugs" (some of the kids are actually really mature! just not the one who is hoarding the bike) or to justify racist beliefs -- the boys' bad behavior has a lot more to do with age and arrogance, and nothing to do with race. I have seen young white men act this EXACT same way many times.

That was a really thorough and fair video, thanks for that. Neither of them comes out looking innocent but the guy looks worse.

If the kid in the purple hoodie starts a GoFundMe for his college or something, I'd contribute to that.

Because a lot of people jumped to conclusions when this video was first posted and tried to destroy the reputation of someone who didn't deserve it.

That's it. It's not even a particularly interesting situation. But when the video was posted, it was presented as something very specific -- a racist white lady weaponizing FAKE tears to get young black men harmed. And when it turned out that wasn't what it was (not even a little bit, I'm sorry, y'all got it extremely wrong), the people who jumped to that conclusion wouldn't let go.

I will admit to thinking that's what it was when I first saw the video, and I'm actually glad I stuck it out with this thread because I've been educated not just on what actually happened in this situation but also in how easily I can be convinced of a lie if I'm primed in a certain way. I think more of us need to learn this lesson. This will change how I engage with "news" like this in the future. Waiting for more info and simply saying "I don't know, I reserve judgment" is almost never a bad idea.

I agree with all of this. Nate the Lawyer's breakdown is great and he makes the point at the start that everybody is seeing this pretty minor through racial filters. The real issue is the people like Monique jumping in, without even waiting for all the facts, to use their platforms and racially charged language to ruin the PA's life.

It's not about this little skirmish that happens hundreds of times a day at CitiBike racks.

It's about how some people called out the internet mob to ruin this PA's life using racially charged language, when that wasn't what was happening. It's about weaponizing terms like Karen when that's not what's going on, at all. It's about how racists think the guy is a thug.

Will be interested to see whether Monique, who retweets everything about this, goes ahead and retweets Nate the Lawyer's balanced assessment.

Enjoy the defamation suit, Monique. Tweets from you, Enty, Crum and others are the reason we're still talking about this after 213 pages.

Crump deleted and backed away. Monique should experience a serious financial loss for her BS. What I don’t understand is how personal she’s made this, like she hates the PA. Very very strange.
