Where do you keep your emergency funds?

We keep ours in a savings account. But it's just sitting there, not making any money. I was wondering if there are better options.

We keep ours in Internet bank savings accounts - Ally, ING. The interest is .75% or so, but it's better than nothing.

Buried in the backyard in a Mason jar.

Just kidding. In CDs.

CDs have dismal rates as well.

There is no "safe" place to keep money that has a great interest rate. If there was everyone who be sticking it there. A savings account is just fine unless you want to put it in low risk mutual funds.

In a fireproof safe in the closet, along with our passports and a couple of hand guns and ammo.

Not kidding.

Most money is between two savings accounts and the rest is in cash at three banks.

I don't worry about intruders. The likelihood of someone breaking into your house is infinitely small. It's paranoid to worry about it.

Plus, I want the safe with the guns as high as I can get it, so the kids can't reach it.

Hopefully you won't die at the hands of the Crayton boys.
