| So how do social workers afford to live in Maryalnd? |
| Haha! I work in social servies and make 60k a year. I'm married and my husband makes more twice this. We can definitely live in md. |
| You get married |
Lol I only ask because it seems like the houses are really expensive compared to the salaries other proffessionals are making... |
Most social workers I know make at least twice what teachers make. I understand why you were wondering.
|
| Married well. Teachers in MD actually make more than most social workers and have better benefits. Teachers get housing and other perks that social workers don't get. Otherwise you live in shared housing, with family or really far out. |
| You have a tight budget and roll your eyes at the excess on DCUM. |
+1 There are PLENTY of people in the entire DMV that don't make 6 figures. People survive. |
| I cannot imagine being able to afford living alone in this area on a social worker's salary. You have to live with roommates or a spouse/partner. |
| All of my SW friends are either married or live with roommates (even into late 30's) |
They don't live in the DMV |
| If you are a social worker with good business acumen, than you can run a profitable private practice. I am in the me tal health fuel and know both broke and wealthy social workers |
| The ones I know get married to someone with a better compensated job. |
So you start out idealistic, but eventually are happy to anyone a glowing home study if the price is right |
Just because you are in the helping profession doesn't mean one takes an oath of poverty. To be a well-off social worker doesn't mean you've compromised your ideals and quest to help others. |
