I've been working on making healthy changes, losing weight, and eating healthier. I am looking for meals that are lean and healthy that my family will also enjoy (I kind of feel guilty sometimes, because just because I'm watching my carbs and calories doesn't mean my husband wants to, and absolutely doesn't mean that my four year needs to..). I guess I'm just looking for new and interesting meal ideas and/or recipes that we'll all like.
If you've made changes like this for yourself, but didn't want to necessarily push it on your family so to speak, what did you do? |
| Skinny mom and skinny taste websites have great recipes for cooking for a family. My family loves just about everything I make from these sites, and they are pretty simple to make. I have lost 25 pounds in the last year, just from healthy eating. |
| Agreed about Skinny Taste! Making her chicken and white bean enchiladas tonight. |

Provide yourself with an alternative. For example, make tacos with ground turkey. Buy tortillas or shells for the family, but get some lettuce and make a lettuce wrap for yourself.
If you're going to make rice, might as well make brown rice for the whole family since that's healthier anyway, and only allow yourself half of a serving size. Doing things like that has helped me a lot. Or, if I make a chicken stir fry, I'll have my over extra vegetables instead of rice or noodles that everyone else is having. That way you don't have to do anything special and everyone can eat the same meal. |
| I like Ellie Krieger's recipes. She's a nutritionist so the food is healthy but still something anyone would want to eat. |
OP here, thank you for this, this is a great idea. Thank you everyone for the ideas! Definitely looking into all of them! |

Op what does your family normally eat. I've often cooked in a way so that they get essentially the same meal and I have some substitutes.
For example, making a stir-fry and making the veggies separately and then I'll do some BLSL chicken for me and then the usual beef with brown sauce for them. Everyone takes a portion of veggies and then puts their protein of choice over it. It helps to know what they're used to eating and then provides some alternatives to make it work for everyone. |
