I'm hosting a dessert-tasting, and I don't want to make them myself. Where in the metro DC area can I buy the best desserts (pastries, cakes, fruit tarts, etc.)?
whole foods. no one will know the difference.
I like Tout de Sweet in Bethesda.
i love Randolph's in Arlington
Praline bakery.
Paul's has lovely fruit tarts and macroons.
DC isn't the best place for nice desserts. If I were you, I'd hire someone to make some treats for you (maybe a SAHM) who would do it for a decent price (we had moms at my kid's Montessori School who made better desserts than French Patissieri's).

Stella's Bakery on RV pike. Amazing!
Whole Foods has terrible baked goods. Terrible. |

+1 on Stella's and Praline. I've heard Paul's is good, but haven't checked it out yet.
Is Reeves Bakery still on G Street in Metro Center area? Or did it get gobbled up? They had wonderful strawberry pie. I don't know if their desserts were "super fancy," but they were super good. |

Patisserie Poupon in Georgetown. So good. At Wisconsin and Q. Needless to say you will pay through the nose, but worth it.
