“Chronic truancy is a widespread problem in the District. At four high schools last year, more than 40 percent of students missed a month or more of class

We know that a lot of children aren’t making it to school because they have to pay,” Bowser said. “Even though we don’t have a school bus system, I think that you should be able to get to school for free.”

Wouldn't it be funny if there was even more truancy because the kids are now off riding around town during school hours? This didn't seem very well thought out.

no, I agree, that sounds stupid to me. if this was the reason, then DCPS should have a system like the free meals, and give free tickets to people who do not have the money to pay for it (which I thought it was already the system since I saw older people and very young people show something to the bus driver and not paying the fare - I thought they had some type of card for free ride but this was just my guess). based on the news it seems that all student, regardless of their parents' income, will ride free.

The card you saw a student show costs $30 a month and I'd good for metro bus and train rides. The other current option for students are student bus tokens which are half price and only good for the bus.

No. It wouldn't be funny at all.

And yes, obviously you are pathetic.
