DC students to get free bus service this fall

I think if kids cannot afford the $30 pass, then they should qualify for a free/ reduced transportation pass- less than $30- to use on both metro and bus.

I also wondered about this. My DD takes both rail and bus and was wondering if the student pass cost will decrease. There is no mention of it, so I guess this only benefits students that take the bus ONLY.

What is the point of debating something that has already been done? In theory it is an ok idea. I do agree that with more than an hour worth of thinking someone could have came up with something better...

I just called WMATA to get info. on how to get the free bus pass. I couldn't talk to a live person and none of the voice prompts provide this info. Anyone BTDT and can provide specific info? Is there a form to fill out and have the school provide proof, etc...?

The Metro student subsidies are done through the DDOT school transit subsidy program and the student's DC One card. Last year you had to sign up online through DDOT and then you had to print out a letter and take it to to a Metro sales office to get it verified at the beginning of the year. Here's the link. It's not yet updated for the free bus service. http://ddot.dc.gov/DC/DDOT/Services/Transit+Subsidies/School+Transit+Subsidy+Program
