Options for opposing Connecticut Avenue changes?

More nonsense from the DC Council. I thought they were all in a time out for being a national embarrassment!

So 2/6 lanes for parking, 2/6 lanes for bikes, we are left with? Gridlocked streets.

Luckily no one gives a hoot what DC Council thinks any longer.
I hope DDOT writes a snarky message back.

It is a good idea. I agree, we shouldn't have a 6 lane highway as our city street. Adding the parking back should be supported by the anti-bikelane people as it should help boost businesses, right?

This is a temporary measure being proposed in response to the various crashes that have taken place on the Avenue, with the most recent fatal crash reaching news outlets. As it is, there will be 2/6 parking lanes and 4/6 traffic lanes.

When the resdesign is implemented, it will be 1/6 bike lanes, 4/6 traffic lanes and 1/6 pick-up/drop off areas.

I am not sure why people are so opposed, but YMMV

It’s not a city street. It’s a major artery, a highway if you will.

I’m ok w bike lanes, but frankly not that and parking. Also can’t we borrow some of that generous sidewalk like in Berlin, Amsterdam and Geneva?

No, it is a city street. It is where I walk my dog, get my food, socialize with my neighbors, etc. It is not a highway and shouldn't be treated as one.

The full parking is a temporary measure being proposed by Frumin in his letter. When DDOT finishes with the new configuraton, there would generally be parking on one side of the street, 24/7 - something that doesn't happen currently.

You have plenty of city streets right off it. This is a major in and out artery.

But it's not a highway -- those other streets don't have, for instance, businesses on them. If you want to get to work without having to drive on a city street, you can take Metro.

Omg there’s a sidewalk and it’s oversized.

It is not a highway, it was not built as a highway and it shouldn't be one today. Just because some transportation officials decided in the 1950's to undo the streetcar and install reversible lanes to facilitate suburban cars doesn't mean that was the intent or the best use.

It’s what’s known as a “major arterial”. It’s complete idiocy to do it the way he’s proposing.

If you want to do it properly, reinvent it like the Champs-Elysees and don’t just reassign the existing lanes like a rube.

Also make sure you know how you’re rerouting the traffic.

In that case let’s go back to the 1930s. Hope you enjoy your consumption. This is ridiculous

FYI consumption meant something different then. Ditto the traffic
