Sounds like a great starting point for travel!

I would say every club/coach is different. We left a club that favored big fast players vs small technical players. A balance of both is critical and most importantly having soccer IQ. If you go to a few clubs you will find a fit and if he has a true passion and works hard he will get those technical skills.

Someone help me out. There is a post in one of the large soccer threads that attempts to list the colors used by each club. I want to say it was on one of the pages in the 90s. I haven't been able to find it again. I'll see if I can find a way to incorporate that info.

I tried to get people to post on this before, but the sidetracking and snark was a detriment to th thread. But I’m glad there’s interest now because I find it as valuable, if not more, knowing the color of the team and what that means in addition to the name.

FPYC: Blue, Gold
HERN: Black, Red, White
REST: Blue, White, Yellow, Green
GRFL: Blue, White, Gold (sometimes with some other names thrown in, like Lazio or Estudiantes)
LOUD: Red, Black, White, Silver (I also see Gray and Green in ODSL)
MCLN: Green, White, Gold, Silver, White
VYS: Red, Black, White (also Silver in ODSL. CYA: Purple, Gold, Silver, Black (also White)
NVSC: Blue, White
PAC: Navy, White (then Gold and Silver in ODSL. Also, girls teams are starting to go by Gold)
STER: Orange, White
LMVSC: Red, White, Blue
ARL: Red, White, Blue, Black, Silver, Gold
PWSI: Red, White (that can't be all)
POT: Blue, White, Black
SYA: Red (also Black)
VSA: Blue, Gold, White
BRYC: Elite, Blue, White (note: most ODSL teams are run out of separate rec department)
GSC: Red, White
BETH: Blue, Green (gets very confusing when they move up to DA, EDP, etc.)
DCST: Blue, White, Red
WALD: Orange
SMS: Gold, Red
ALEX: Red, White, Blue, Black, Silver
ACH:No color designations

People may be able to fill in gaps.

For Bethesda, that's accurate for the older groups, but for the younger kids the order is now:
Pre-Academy 1
Pre-Academy 2
Blue
Green
Bunch of other colors that I'm not sure of.

Er, DCST is Blue, Red, White (or Gold) and Black.

Arlington definitely offers spots to kids they play against.

bryc boys for both u11 and u12

I know girls in these age groups were offered slots by coming to practice but they also did not have an open tryout. This is how they were filling the vacant roster spots.

Yes. That's how you play the game. Let's the coach evaluate your kid fairly instead of the few minutes per try out. Unless your kid is awesome then you don't need to worry.

im a little confused here can someone with explain ? BRYC isn't having open tryouts but have switched several coaches around on the boys side. so if my son tried out and practiced with a coach and now that coach isn't coaching the same age group anymore how will the new coach know whether or not my son will make the team and even more which team A or B he would be assigned? how often do they move kids up from the B to A team? and do they play kids up at BRYC ? when we practiced with them I was introduced to the coach and now via their website he has been moved to a higher age team.

you could email the coach (either or both) and ask them for info.

In BRYC, there is a lot of communication between coaches and the DOC as rosters are being sorted out. If you came to training recently and talked to the previous coach, that all should have been passed along to the DOC and incoming coach. If you came to training a while ago and haven't been in contact at all with continued interest, or haven't done the tryout registration, then you might find yourself forgotten. Definitely get in contact.

Perhaps this should be a separate thread, but how many teams should 1 person be the head coach of? BRYC has a guy who's listed as the head coach of 3 ECNL teams. I've heard of it in younger age groups but at that level, I don't see how it's feasible.

The 02 and 03 teams train together at the same time most often. They scrimmage versus each other as well. Their games and showcase are at the same location. Coaching is covered by coach, assistant or DOC. 04 will train just before on same days back to back with 02/03. Their games and showcases mirror 02 and 03. BYRC uses private busses for all teams traveling for any true away games. They stay at same hotel and have chaperones. It’s pretty feasible to have same coach for these three teams in this system.
