New Name for JEB Stuart HS - 9/16 Community Vote

I won't play your rope-a-dope, as your arguments are wildly inconsistent.

Stuart is an unacceptable name, and the Superintendent's decision to forward five names to the School Board indicates that he fully appreciates that most community voters last weekend want a name other than Stuart.

I'd be less worried about Johns being the name of a school than your continuing to act like a Dick.

And, you just made my argument on Johns.

And, yet, you'll be able to get through the afternoon, won't you?

Sure, but I'm not a fifteen year old high school girl.

There were several 15 or 16-year-old girls who spoke in favor of Barbara Rose Johns HS on 9/9.

And, they obviously did not think of the consequences. Just like so many never thought of the problem with two Marshall Highs.

And, like FCPS has not added up all the costs--can't believe they left out all the office supplies and signs other than sports facilities on their cost list. The library was left out, too. Just think of all the time that it is going to take to restamp library and textbooks. Just wait--there are a lot more costs that no one has considered. The only thing on the list is activities and sports.

What about all the technology and other equipment in the school?

Curious?

Will there be a rule against wearing Stuart sweatshirts in school? Will Stuart swag be prohibited?

I think they just believe the current name of the school sucks, and rightfully so. Much more impressive than the adults trying to hang on to their Confederate name.

Yeah--it's only money. FCPS has plenty of that.

So, get ready Robert E. Lee!

Would you want to attend a school named after Robert E. Lee? I sure wouldn't.

Funny, none of the expenses included the signs around the school or the administrative costs of changing--someone is going to have to do all the notifications, etc, order new stationary, rubber stamps, etc. Labor to change the name on everything administrative. That seems to me to be a pretty large expense. I don't see it included anywhere.

With Stuart--all that would have to be done is remove the JEB from the signs. Lots of things at Stuart already just say "Stuart".

Looks to me like it was manipulated to make it look more expensive.

The school board needs to have a backbone and say it's not changing the name or it is. They estimate $500,000 for "changing" to Stuart. I'd rather them keep it as JEB Sturat rather than spending that money because NO ONE will think it's any other Stuart than JEB. That is just a ridiculous use of taxpayer dollars for no principled reason. The fact that they are the ones that floated it as a change the community should get behind doesn't give me any confidence that they won't go forward with that farce. They will foot the entire bill for that change because I can't imagine anyone in their right mind donating to such a ridiculous "change."

If I had been the SB, when this first came up, they should have just said that--in the future, any purchases of equipment, etc, will drop the "JEB". Most people just called it Stuart, in any case. Money would only be spent as replacements were needed.

As for all this chatter about honoring Jeb, that doesn't really occur in these schools. Do they have JEB Stuart day that honors Jeb? Most of the kids did not even know anything about him.

This whole thing has been a witch hunt that is costing the taxpayers. And, it will continue with other schools.

Drop the Jeb. Change the equipment as necessary. Move forward. Cost: nul

Maybe the kids can get community service hours for spending time restamping books. That would save money. I'd volunteer to do that and also volunteer my kid, even without community hours.

Fortunately you are not the School Board and a candidate spouting views like yours was just trounced in a special election.

Yeah. People with common sense don't get elected to our School Board.

Discriminatory names aren't common sense. JEB Stuart and Stuart are both unacceptable.
