I would think that information is readily available. It would be interesting to see if Hardy is making inroads with Mann (which would be significant) rather than ratcheting up with Stoddard (also interesting).

Historically, this information has been anything but readily available. The IB/OOB numbers don't come out until several months into the school year, and there is zero public disclosure of things like the breakdown by feeder school, percentage of OOB but from feeder, etc. DCPS may have it but they don't share it.

So I'm a little suspicious when we've got a poster crowing about 50 IB kids less than two weeks into the school year. Where are those numbers coming from?

Bumping this question - what is the total number of grade 6 students at hardy? In order to calculate percentage. Also, dcps profile still showing 13% overall, so that is last year's stat? Maybe closer to 20 now?

Given its small size and narrow boundaries, Hardy could quite rapidly become a superior academic experience to Deal. Kids who start at a feeder elementary to Hardy, from OOB, will be quite lucky.


Why should "narrow boundaries" make the academic EXPERIENCE better than that at Deal? That doesn't even make sense.

It locks in six years of strong academic performance achieved at high-performing feeder (elementary) schools to Hardy; whereas Deal cannot say the same.

As an IB family, the question of whether the feeder school students are IB for their feeder school or OOB is irrelevant. The point is that students from the feeder schools are very well prepared regardless of their IB OOB status. The relevant metric is not IB percentage but, rather, feeder school percentage.

Consider two students from the same block. One applied and got into Mann in grade 1. The other attending the local dcps school. Both go to Hardy for grade 6, one through feeder rights the other through the lottery. Their level of preparedness is likely to be very different and call for different educational treatment.
