Here are the things I am sick of:

I hate all the posters who are making a huge deal over nothing on the Christmas posts on this board. I dont celebrate christmas and have lots of friends who do and it has never been an issue. IRL, no one is insulted if you dont wear red/green, dont want to sing a religious song of another religion, or dont believe in Santa. Mind your own business.

I hate those bumper stickers that say "My Kid is An Honor Student at XYZ School".

Usually, when I take a gander at the kid, the "Honor Student" is picking his nose or screaming like a banshee.

I'm sick of atheists who shun all things Christian....until it comes to Christmas and then they're ready to take part. All the while cursing Christianity, of course.

But don't many Christians take part in Halloween? I say let's share the holidays with everyone. (But you already knew that being a Christian and all.)

Anonymous wrote:Would love to know what the defense is of illegal aliens in the US.

Why exactly should they not be required to leave?

illegal: Contrary to or forbidden by law

Again, why exactly is it okay to enter the US illegally and then participate in government assistance programs? If someone has an intelligent answer, I'm more than willing to learn and consider new possibilities.

I appreciate that you are asking this in a non-confrontational way, but I suspect that any answer I could give would not change your position. I think we (probably) disagree on the very fundamentals of this argument -- for instance, I understand that they are breaking the law and should in theory be held accountable to that -- but I disagree with the law. So I don't have an argument for you there that you would buy into.

That said, the numbers on illegal immigrants collecting government assistance are (in my estimation) wildly inflated. Now, you can very well come back and ask me to prove it but I can no more prove my position on this than you can yours. Why? Because no one can. No one has any idea what the numbers are. The CBO has said that the net costs to states is probably minimal. So, while I certainly know that many people think that even if $1 goes to illegal immigrant families is $1 too much, I personally think that if it is taxpayer dollars you are worried about there are other areas that would come first on my list.

I don't want to get too far off the original topic so I will leave it at that.

No pp, but what I'm getting is that basically you have no answer and your beliefs are based on things you can't even prove? Uhmmmm...okay.

NP here. Many undocumented workers use fake papers, so they are indeed paying payroll taxes. Because they aren't working legally, though, they will never actually collect the social security or medicare benefits that they paid for. So actually, "illegal aliens" are subsidizing our entitlement programs.

Yeah, but most of them have "baby mommas" who have multiple anchor babies so that they can stay home and collect welfare payments, get free education, free healthcare, etc. So, yeah...not exactly a wash.

+1. In any other country, illegals are treated like illegals. Companies just want them here for cheap labor and liberals want them as nannys, housekeepers, and gardeners.

ABOUT CENTRAL/NORTH ARLINGTON...

The endless train of young women with tall boots and leggings with the baggy sweater. Cloning is not yet legal.
Especially when they are on the chunky side - Ugg boots and leggings were not MADE for you, tubby.
The gourmet burger trend. They should have stopped with BGR (an excellent burger).
Any hint of the cupcake trend. I'm so ready for the day that this short-lived nonsense dies and we can go back to our lardy devil food Giant bakery cupcakes at a reasonable price.
New brick mid-rises in Clarendon. We can handle a variety of building materials, really.
"Steps to Metro". Lie. Lie. Lie. Though this goes for the lying real estate agents across all of NoVA, really.
Jhoon Rhee. $180/month. Jesus F. Christ. Yet child actually enjoys this, unlike soccer. Damn.
Restaurants in close proximity to Jhoon Rhee at Lee Harrison. Except for the Thai place. Please don't mention Elevation Burger, which is overpriced, faux-healthful rubbish.
All the goddamn kids with last names for first names, which sounds pretentious. "Harrison! Hurry home for your Japanese lessons." "Carter! Nanny is ready to go now!"
The fact that although I had my child when I was 29, a pretty normal age on the spectrum, the parents of all other children my son's age seem to be 10 years older than I am. And God, do they look it.
There's no real neighborhood/street life along Wilson outside of Clarendon, which has been co-opted by national chains.
Ballston Common Mall continues to suck ass as it has since I moved here in '98. Gee, who wants to buy a dinette or go to a second Macy's in one mall? Ballston's your place! One place where we need national chains (apparel) and we get junk.
Giganto-houses shaped like bowling alleys that appear to have eaten the modest single-family homes that used to be there. I'm sure your neighbors enjoy having the sun blotted out and staring at the beige vinyl siding of your wannabe McMansion that you think is so much better than those in Ashburn because you are "urban".
Dickwads who refuse to stop for pedestrians attempting to cross roads, despite flashing lights, raised crossings, and excessive signage. Arlington County police - please step up enforcement.

I'm sick of people who just got to DCUM and are complaining about mini-van stickers when we have already all agreed that we mostly hate these stickers. Now if you are going to revive my thread, dagnabit, throw down some bloody meat!

I haven't had a pet in a long time, and I don't like it when people call themselves "mommy" to a dog, but I respect people who understand they have a responsibility to spend time with their dog and I think pets can be an important part of the family.

They probably need to get the dog from "doggie daycare" because it closes at 6-7pm...

Reading about Whole Foods being THE only place to shop. I suppose it is good, if one has no budget limit for food and thinks all other places are substandard.
