SM? Bezos gives us amazon, the extent to which amazon has improved our standard of living is pretty hard to deny. Elon made EV's commercially viable. We wouldn't have the EV market we have today without him. We wouldn't really have a US based space program without him. Right now they are both chasing AI (AGI) and nobody is sure if this is going to be the greatest boon to mankind or destroy us all. |
No this is reality. Essays were good. But feel free to think that to make yourself feel better about your kids chances though! In MCPS most classes are weighted. |
This is crazy. Harvard, Princeton, Stanford is such a crap shoot even with these stats….so frustrating. Where is you kid going between Vandy, Duke and Oxford? |
None of this is crazy. This person could’ve gotten rejected more than a decade ago. Just having a good score isn’t unique- a lot of people have good scores with course rigor. |
Umm. No. I work at a top Wall Street bank and we don’t hire CS kids for finance roles. Sorry. |
4.4 GPA, 35 ACT, white unhooked female at private college prep school; STEM major; one National Level EC that wasn't crazy; she ED'd to Rice and was accepted. Rice was her first choice and being unhooked, we figured that was her best bet. |
My kid is doing double major - Finance and Econ. He has interned with fintech companies. Most of his classmates have double majors in some sort of finance, accounting, math, econ degree. |
+1 Parents don't grasp this until their kid experiences it themselves. These schools are rejecting 95 out of every 100 applicants (it is actually probably more like rejecting 97/98 out 100 if you take out the spots that are essentially reserved for athletes, kids of donors/legacy and questbridge). Your outstanding kid is competing with literally thousands of other equally qualified students for a couple of spots. |
10000+++ |
Yes, Wharton unhooked |
This rat race ain't worth it. Just apply to Vassar and get a great education 2 hrs from nyc and don't have to jump over as many hoops to get in. |
What state are you located in? |
17/20 very high honors on the Baccalaureate exam series S1 (Math and Physics) from one the best private high school in Senegal (West Africa). #2 in his graduating class. 1500 SAT score. He is a sophomore at UC Berkeley engineering physics major with full scholarship.. Most importantly he is doing very well. He got rejected from MIT and Stanford. |
Im the parent of the kid denied at H,P and S and accepted to Vandy, Duke and Oxford. The frustrating part for him is that little sister just got in Stanford, same major, worst stats. 1550/35 top 3% but not salutatorian and quite frankly, worse ECs than her brother. |
Did they both apply for a STEM major? |
