Hot coffee or espresso seems to be the best compliment to a good cookie. The acidity, heat and bitterness cut the richness and sweetness of the butter, sugar, (and chocolate). I don’t mind cold milk in general but it doesn’t compliment a cookie at all.

"Hello cookie, I just LOVE your creme filling!" (milk compliments cookie)

I love a glass of cold milk with cookies or cake.
