We don't spank our kids. That's why they aren't thugs that express their emotions through violence.

That might be part of it, but a bigger part is unaddressed developmental issues like ADHD, FAS, oppositional disorder, etc.

Nah. I have two sons with adhd and asd. One with odd too. Neither has ever assaulted anyone. In fact one was physically attacked at school and didn't fight back. Watch the girl throwing hands in the video. That's not the first time she's been in a fight. Sone families allow it, some even encourage it.

Throwing hands, lol

I've been in the presence of some of these parents/sperm donors...sadly it doesn't surprise me one bit that their children behaved the way they did. Unfortunately, it took THIS! to wake up the community. The behaviors go all the way back to elementary/middle school Their free ride ended Thursday night.

That's what I thought too. Definitely not her first rodeo. That girl has a lot of experience with violence..

It's tragic. But kids with this kind of upbringing need to be identified early on and treated accordingly in a safe environment.

Some parents are really awful and their kids don't have a chance. MCPS is not doing anyone any favors by refusing to hand out consequences to violent behavior

The whole "spanking" thing is generational. My siblings and I were spanked in the 70s. My parents were spanked in the 50s. Their parents... etc. I'm afraid it will be a while longer before the greater number of ADOS families stop spanking.

We don't but finding other and better ways to discipline took some effort.

No it didn’t. The kids got away with it, at least at BCC. Parents received an email saying it’s been taken care of, and whatever happened will remain secret.

Then they sent a link to some restorative justice nonsense.

When was this sent? I’m a BCC parent and the last message I got from the school about it was Dr. Mooney’s 9/5 community letter about the two investigations and that those who videoed it would also be punished. Nothing since other than the MCPS message about measures they will be taking at games and that police are still conducting an investigation.

Will the violent kids remain at the school? Or it’s confidential?
Anonymous
I would not feel safe having those students at the school.
Are there dedicated schools in MCPS for violent minors? How is it ok to subject the other students to this? I saw in another thread that a BCC student who beat another student with a chair graduated and received cheers. This and that a locker room rapist (different MCPS high school) had been moved schools 3 times sickened me. They kept these kids mainstream!
Why are violent students allowed to remain?

Chevy Chase families are going to pull their kids out. People with money will vote with their feet.

I was initially really worried when Bethesda Beat closed their comment section. Fortunately I can see from this thread at least a couple of the awful people that used to frequent there found a new home in DCUM. Happy ending.

The letter was sent to every parent in MCPS. It said nothing about restorative justice. It said that some of the kids were disciplined in school according to the MCPS Code of Conduct and that there is an ongoing police investigation. Schools never reveal what consequences are doled out. Ever.

Yep. And the school will get more violent as all the wealthy pull their kids out of BCC and put em in private ASAP. This is horrific

This has gone on for years. ILs in CC. No one on their street has kids at BCC.

FERPA makes it dicey to share that sort of info.

That’s the MCPS message, not from BCC.
