I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought that referring to him as “Baby K” was utterly ridiculous. He had an adult warrant out for him in PG County, and PG has now put his real name out there, but ok DC OAG we can pretend that no one should know his true name because brain development

I wondered about that. I understand keeping a minors name out of papers - is he 18 now? Or does PG County just not play?

He’s charged as an adult in PG so that strips all the confidentiality that is afforded to minors charged in juvenile court. Also, credit to PG and their State’s Attorney’s Office, they do not play with violent juvenile offenders. They charged him as an adult and argued for him to be placed in an adult detention facility. I think there is also something to be said for the fact that it is not an office run by white liberals with a savior complex.

Thankfully last time I checked Jawando does not run a State’s Attorneys Office.

My young kids were caught in the middle of a gun battle on 295 on Saturday. Two cars stopped on the highway in front of them and BOTH drivers started firing at eachother. They had to duck down in the wheel well while people started abandoning their cars and running past them. it was barely news. They thought they were going to die. This city is a nightmare.

Thank goodness for killmoenetwork inc. As someone who works in a dangerous area of DC, I appreciate the news I get from this site. Half of the time, serious neighborhood crimes never make it to the news.

Here's an example where Charles Allen wrote to a judge saying she made a mistake in denying a serial rapist's parole based on the fact that one of the victims he raped was a 9 year old child. As he say says, the law he co-authored (and was passed by the council) said that judges weren’t supposed to take into account the nature of the crime when considering early release:

There is absolutely a difference between urban areas and suburbs with mostly educated families. White flight is a real thing. If you move to most suburbs or towns you’ll find a local government that does everything it can to fight and prevent crime along with zoning and other laws to keep crime out. The best way to avoid crime is to not live anywhere close to public transportation and to not live where there is inexpensive housing.

Spot on about public transportation. Added bonus if the community is also up in the hills which makes it even less accessible.

It’s sad that instead of saying crime bad safety good we need to engage in all the identity politics thing. If you are X you can’t fight crime; only if you are Y, even if you are simply not effective as a city manager - you are given preference (not talking about her specifically)
